Useful Apps for Nursing

Published

With technology being as advanced as it is these days, I've heard of many nurses and nursing students using their smartphones for medical resources. Personally I have the IPhone and have been looking at suggestions for nursing student apps. I start in the Fall 2012 so I haven't been able to test these out yet. When I do, I'll update this but I would also like to hear from other nursing students about their favorite and most useful nursing apps! The ones I have so far are:

-Flashcardlet (links with quizlet.com which lets you create and share flash cards. also has a banks of flashcards made by others. you can test on spelling and make multiple choice tests to quiz yourself!)

-Lippincotts Q&A - NCLEX Review apps (I have four of them: Health Assessment, MedSurg, Pathophys, and NCLEX Review)

-Prognosis (lets you run tests and treat case studies)

-Eponyms

-Epocrates

Best of all, all of these apps were free! Which is great for us starving nursing students :)

What do you use?

@BrittRN2B14 - I actually read the same blog! I checked it out and I agree... very cool! The only thing that I hesitate about is using other peoples flashcards. There's no check to make sure they are 100% correct, so I try to keep that in mind.

I also use Quizlet and when I use a set someone already made I always double check before I start studying. A lot of times they have extras in there that I don't need and some that I need to add. They have a feature that you can export all the cards and make your own set. So if I saw a deck that had a lot of the cards I liked, I would export them to make my own and double check the answers.

I want to read this blog too! What is the blog?

I can't find the free saunder app. :(

I am a fan of micromedex too, I've had it installed for sometime just to look up my own meds and those for my family and friends.

I have a Saunder's app. I saw the free one but it only comes with like 25 questions. It's called Saunder's Lite. I saw it in itunes. I downloaded the regular Saunders Mobile Q's. It was $29.99, comes with 1500 questions and you can add 500 more directly from your phone for like $8.99. I really like the Saunder's and I use all the Saunder's series NCLEX pyramid and also the Davis Success Series. (they have a great Fundamental's Success that really helped me during Intro this past semester. This semester I'll start using Med-Surg Success)

As an ER nurse for 6 years I began writing a program to take the place of shift report sheets, "nurse brains", post-its, scratch paper, etc. what features would interest you as a nurse in any specialty?
