I know that we have enough stress in nursing school without bringing our weight into the picture but I put on 10 pounds this past semester! I was wondering if anyone else had trouble keeping weigt off in nursing school........I think I ate more due to stress and late night studying....I didnt exercise as much and I just.....felt my clothes getting tighter. I would like to lose these 10 pounds so my clothes can fit me again and also avoid gaining weight this next semester......grrr! Does anyone have any advice or has this happened to you.....my main goal in nursing school is to pass my classes but I also would like to maintain my health and not put on weight. Help!!:uhoh3:

I'm in the same boat. I gained 10 lbs 1st smemster, lost it all over the summer, then gained it back 2nd semester. I was already unhappy with my weight and now I'm even more unhappy. So I'm trying to get in my Tae Bo more regularly and I'm trying to eat better. It's not easy though, especially when you're starving after class and want to stop at the first fast food place you see!

How about the freshman 15, sophomore 15, junior 15 and senior 15. For my body's sake, I wish nursing school was only one semester!:o

Sounds like I am in your club.

Have you had any splenda side-effects? I have heard that artificial sweeteners sometimes react badly with people?

I am trying to slim down too. I have decided to just lower the portions that I eat and to exercies more regularly. I have found that exercising in the morning and stretching at night really helps me out through the day. I have not lost much weight yet but it makes me feel better and thats good enough for now. Right? :)

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted. School started for me the first week of January.

I am doing much better with my eating, walking nearly every day, BUT...I haven't lost a pound. At least I'm not gaining.

I don't have trouble with Splenda or Sweet and Low; however, I do have trouble with the sugar alcohol in some of the diet products, such as the new Slim Fast Optima line. They tear my stomach up!

I am eating Kashi Go Lean for breakfast-with Soy Milk, a peanut butter sandwich made with Heart Healthy bread and lowered fat peanut butter. (No jelly) and low fat snacks in the evening. I am not really eating a meal in the evening. Just pretzels, fat-free popcorn, apples, ect. I am walking a mile to mile and half a day.

I am not eating at school (except for my P/B sandwich) and I don't get home until 3:30, so that has eliminated a lot of daily calories. Not sure what to do at night. I have even given up my 4 oz. of wine at bedtime. Still haven't budged the scales. All my fluids are sugar free.

The good news is, one day this will all be over and we will wish we could have just a little more time to sit on our butts! I'll bet the weight comes off a little easier working 12 hour shifts... no time to pee much less eat.

Oh well. I'm having a bit of a turnaround here, will miracles never cease. I'm actually losing my appetite and it is translating into less of me. Woohoo. Third semester anxiety has hit and food is the furthest thing from my mind. Yippeee! (for the weight loss, not the anxiety).

Maybe you've cut your calories back too much. If you don't eat enough your body goes into startvation mode and tries to conserve weight. I heard when you're trying to lose weight to only cut your calories back 400-500 a day.

Actually, I am having about 1200 a day. I read an article this week (again) that says lack of sleep will mess your metabolism up, too. I haven't had more than 6 hours since I went back to school the first week of January. Today was supposed to be my last day at work, but the woman taking my place has a daughter whose baby is due in the next 3 weeks and she doesn't want to start until the baby is born.

Oh, well...

I am so happy for you!! Not about the anxiety, but that you are losing some! You go, girl!!

Since I first posted on this thread, I have lost 8 pounds. Nothing huge, but it's a loss and I'll take it. People are starting to ask me if I have lost weight. I love when people ask me that.

I started Weight Watchers at Christmas and I have lost 12.8 pounds so far. Hoping to make the 15 pound mark in the next 2 weeks.

You all are really encouraging! I hope that I will be able to post the same thing eventually. I had thought about W/W but I honestly don't think I can spare the time to make the meeting. I am in over my head and doing good to walk each day. W/W is supposed to be the healthiest and best.
