I go to gwinnett tech in ga. I'm taking my first exam tomorrow at 8 am sharp. Worried out of my mind. I have no clue what to expect. Anyone else want to put their feelings or situations. Major support group appreciated.

I still have a week before my first exam. Be sure to let us know how it went.

The first exam of your program is the WORST. Not necessarily because it is difficult content. More because you don't know what to expect. NCLEX style questions are a beast of their own and take some getting used to. It's also where you find out if your instructor tests on everything that is assigned reading or just off lectures so you better know how to effectively study. For now, try not to stress too much about it. There will be people in your class who just do really well off the bat (and you could be one of them) and there will be quite a few who do poorly. Just try to study an overview of the material and pull out the keywords in the questions to answer correctly. GL

My first exam in nursing school was pharm (I was literally freaking out haha) I did really well in fundamentals though! Good luck, you can do it :)

I also have an exam tomorrow (I took the exam for lab last Friday). I agree that it tends to be the scariest just because you aren't sure what to expect - it's going to be the first time you'll be able to assess and get a feel for how the exams are organized. Make sure you are prepared and look over things that were emphasized in the book and lecture. Also, look at the objectives for each chapter and be sure you thoroughly understand those concepts. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. :)

Don't freak out. As someone once told me: the answer is somewhere between A and D. If you've studied, you'll be fine.

Specializes in Medical-Surgial, Cardiac, Pediatrics.

The first exam sucks. I still remember it, and how much stress, pressure, and suckage it was. Mostly because I wasn't used to the question format, what to look for, and I'd already psyched myself up a ton, anyway.

But fear not, you will make it. Every nurse everywhere at some point had to tackle that first exam, and they made it. Good luck!

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

The first exam of any semester with a new teacher is hard because you don't know what to expect. If you've studied adequately and done practice questions then all that is left is to go in and do the best you can do. I remember how nervous I felt on my first Fundamentals exam. I did well and you can too! Don't rush through the exam and don't panic if you don't know the answer right away. Take a deep breath and think it though. Good luck to you!

This sums it up pretty well. I would like to take it a step further. No matter what you get on the first exam take the emotion out of it and relax. Use the exam as a blue print on how to study for ever other exam. Don't freak because you might have got a 68% (an example), use it for everything you can get out of it.

After the first exam you will know what questions might be asked, how they are asked, and what this instructor likes to cover. Now you will have a blueprint of what or how to study for the rest of the semester.

If you get a bad grade go to the nearest doorway and scream. Then get down to business and do better next time. Of course do the best you can on this test also!!

Rob4546 I like your good tips!

When you said get down to business I couldn't help but think of the Mulan song I'll make a man out of you.
