Should i buy an iPad?

I've heard from many that they are a GREAT tool for a nursing student, but I don't want to spend the money if they're more "fun" than "practical..."

What's your take on them? Yea or nay?

I bought an iPad Mini andLOVE it. I use it all the time.

Do it!!!! I am on mine. I never thought I would want or even use one seeing as I already have a smart phone and a laptop, but I got a mini as a gift and now it is part of me. I am never without it, I have nicknamed it my baby :)

I'm going to go against the grain and say "Nay."

New technology grows outdated and obsolete by the day. I wouldn't drop several hundred dollars on a device when you can do extremely well in nursing school without it.

My parents bought me one for Christmas. I love it and use it for a lot of things... I can download books, record lectures/take notes on them, save all my documents for school, the list goes on and on. But, I could do all this in less convenient ways (buy hard cover books, carry my powerpoints with me, etc.) So although it is definitely helpful & convenient, it is not a neccesity.

Do iPads come with Microsoft office or PowerPoint already installed?

You can download Pages (Apple's version of MO). You can also save PDFs to iBooks. I like Box for cloud document storage.

So, I see a couple of posts mentioned specifically the "iPad Mini." Is it a better choice than the regular iPad? I know I'll likely be carrying quite a lot of things with me on a daily basis... Do I want to pay for the mini over the full sized version, or is just a matter of chance that it was specifically mentioned here a couple of times?

Make sure your program allows them. We are not allowed electronics in lectures nor can we have them at our clinical sites, no phones or anything of the kind. I have an iPhone and an iPad, but haven't used them much besides at home.

I'm using an iPad for e-books (this upcoming summer semester it's my development book b/c I already have a physical one from a previous course) and for note taking on power points. I'm hoping I can watch Panoptos (it's a recorded PowerPoint with the professor lecturing) on it to save me from having to be stuck to the desktop on a nice day. I'm also going to have a majority of my NCLEX apps on that to save space for the apps we need in clinical on my phone.
