So, I see all these threads from new nursing students talking about all the stress and how they feel like they want to cry. Can we hear some good stuff about nursing school too, please? I want to go into nursing, but it'd be nice to know that I'm not going to be killing myself with all of the schooling. :uhoh21:

I think the best thing about Nursing School for me is clinical. I love getting in there, learning something new and helping people. Its the chance for me to get a feeling of what being a nurse would be like. Its feels good to help someone who can't help themselves, it gives me great satisfaction. Its so awesome when I help the elderly clients and I can see the gratitude in their eyes cause I took the time to talk to them or provide some basic hygiene the CNA didn't get too.

Im in third week and learning alot it is worth all the effort and time you put in to it. Good people in class and the discussions are awesome. Dont delay do it now.

I am in my senior year of nursing school and I love it. Yes, it is hard, but if it is something you really want to do, you can do it! It's all a mindset. You have to tell yourself you can do it and it's not that bad, and it won't be that bad! I was so scared a year ago then I just told myself this is what I want to do and I will get through it and I am! You really learn so much. You do have to be dedicated and really like what you're studying. One good thing about nursing is you learn so much and all that you learn you can also apply to yourself, your life, and your family. You really grow a lot during nursing school and find out more about yourself. I love what I'm doing even though, yes, there are some hard spots but you have to have the "right" mindset and dedication and you can do it!! Good luck to you!

Nursing school is challenging. They cram info in hard and fast and you read and study like there is no tomorrow. You take a little time here and there for your family so they don't totally rebel.

And somehow you actually retain the information. I'm in a program that is 3 months ahead of my best friend's program. Yesterday, we broke free from our computers and met at the park with our kids. I ACTUALLY remembered most of the basic theory/history portion of nursing that she was working on.

i am married with two kids and it is hard to maintian that balance. I currently working on a paper on gestational diabetes. does anyone have any names of good sources to use? thanks mike

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Yeah, nursing school isn't easy, but you can do it without crying and pulling your hair out. I did. Many others have. Good luck.

One of the best things about nursing school is all the wonderful people I have met.

Mike - what about the American Diabetic Educators site? I'm doing a report on family nursing theories dealing with diabetic teaching and that site was very informative. Good luck...judi

Last semester (my first) I was one of those students who was stressed out and I actually did cry three times in clinical. But that's because I had an instructor who took it upon herself to terrorise the entire class. Even with her threating us on a daily basis I still found times where I absolutly loved what I was doing.

Now I'm in second sememster and I love it. I think it's a combination of good instructors and knowing the routine. I've found more efficient ways to do things either on my own or tips from my fellow students.

If you love it, you'll do it no matter how hard it seems.

I'd say some of the best things about nursing school is:

1. A "kinship" with my classmates.

2. Knowing what things mean when watching the Discovery channel or the Health channel!

3. Understanding what is happening when being checked out in the doctors office!

4. Learning new things that have nothing to do with things I've learned in the past, so its really a NEW experience!

Yes there are lots of good things about nursing school but it is VERY tough to balance but it is worth it! It is best if your family is very aware of the time committment and can understand. My Hubby knows that i am exhuastd most days. I work full time and go to school nights/weekends. It is a long haul. But we do plan things for each other, like movies, etc.

Just be aware of the committment and ENJOY! Don't be afraid to step away from the books once in awhile and KNOW that it is OK if you don't ACE everything...get over it, accept the grade and move on!

:):):):)

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

It is hard, but nursing os one of the most rewarding careers anyone could ever imagine.

Good Luck! :)
