school troubles

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have been having so much trouble with school lately! I am not even in nursing school yet and I'm doing bad on generals! I am a freshman and it is only my first semester and I think I'll have to re-take my math and biology classes. I don't know what's wrong with me but I can't understand them, especially math. I really love algebra but probability and statistics don't make sense to me. I pay for ALL school finances myself so I think I just wasted 1,000 dollars of my hard earned money. :zzzzz I am beginning to re-evaluate my capability of being a nurse and would appreciate any advice as to what to do.

don't give up. i failed a class and it only made me stronger and try harder. college is hard and there's no escaping that. don't get discouraged, keep your head up 049.gif

College is not easy. It is even more competitive than average in Utah, where you are located.

Statistics is more difficult than Algebra. A lot of students struggle with it, so don't feel bad. It becomes especially difficult during the second half of the term.

Don't think of your money as wasted. View it as an investment in yourself. Sure you might have to retake those classes--and maybe others as well. It is just the game of getting through school. You will have many more challenges ahead, both in school and at work some day. Try to stay focused and believe that it will be worth the effort when you are done.

If Nursing is really want you want to do then don't give up and don't give in. Sorry you might be losing money this semester but hang in there, tt your instructors and see what you need to pass.

How are your study skills? Are there tutors at your college?

PM me if you have time.

It depends on your goals, on what you want.

For example, if your goal is simply to become an RN, the last I knew getting an ADN did not require taking statistics. Perhaps that is not true in Utah?

And I doubt that diploma nursing programs require it either. You might check them out.

You've probably heard the old saying "There's more than one way to skin a cat."

Thanks guys for your support! It is required (at least in Utah) that you pass these classes. I will look into the ADN requirements and the diploma nursing programs. Thanks for the advice! :)

You can do this! Don't give up! Does your school have a Learning Center wehre you could go for tutoring? Or perhaps the teacher has a list of students who are willing to help.

Another option is to approach teachers in the nursing department. They are always out to help any student, be it a currently enrolled nursing student or a wannabe! go for it! They will help or they will take you to someone who can!!

Thanks you guys for all your support! You guys made me feel so much better! :kiss I am going to look into tutoring and study really hard for finals coming up in two weeks! I will update you guys on what happens and thanks again! :p

That's the way, a positive mind and will. Definetly helps self esteem.

All the best Keely.

I know what you mean about Statistics being hard. I am taking it right now too, and found it MUCH more difficult than College Algebra. I agree DEFINATELY check into tutoring. Even ask your instructor directly for extra help. Most teachers want to see their students succeed and like to give extra help. My statistics teacher has 'office hours' in which people come and go asking her questions, or just working problems with her extra help. Take advantage of all the extra help you can get in order to get through these classes. Good luck.
