Scholarships for nursing school

Can someone please help point me in the right direction so I may apply for scholarships for my nursing program. I know there's tons of money of there for school, but where do I start? I don't want money to be a hinderance for my life long dream. I'll have to eventually leave my job, but how does a single (mom), independent woman do it? I know there has to be a way. Any advice for reliable websites? In desperate need and planning on starting the nursing program in January 2018. ANY advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response. I'll actually be transferring to a new school for this upcoming summer semester and when I went to their website none of the scholarships apply to me. There has to be another way to apply for scholarships (I hope). I'm trying to stay one step ahead of the game, I'd hate to hit a road block.

I don't know about "tons of money" out there for nursing scholarships. Do you know how you came to that opinion?

I do hope that your nursing school is a community college, state university, etc., and not a for-profit school. Choosing an appropriately priced school is your first step toward financial stability.

Some nursing students train as CNA's and work in a hospital that will contribute to higher education.

Best place to start is the school financial aid office as that's generally the hub for scholarships. I wouldn't say there is tons of money out there for pre-licensure nursing programs especially since parts of the US have more nurses than jobs available.

Start by calling financial aid at the nursing school. They can best direct you. Good luck

Who says you will eventually need to leave your job? Many single mothers remain employed full time throughout the nursing program.

Just because the school officials recommend not working, this does not mean you need to actually adhere to this advice.

Research as much as you can. I found that there was a lot of information in my nursing handbook that I went to and that provided me with a lot of information. It took me 10 years to find a way to get into my nursing program. If you really believe and want something, you'll find a way and you'll get help in ways you never thought possible. I'm 30 and wanted this for a while. Not everyone has the same life, story or experiences. Whatever works for you, do it and take action to do so.

If you're in CA you get get help with CalWorks if you meet certain income requirements for help with food. You can do side jobs to meet income requirements and there is pet sitting where they just stay in your home on craigslist. There is a plethora of options. Be positive and open minded. Knowing you can do it and accomplish it, and that you deserve it while taking proper action is key. Good luck.
