.... and omg! why does it all cost so much!?!

i have been applying to scholarships left and right, already have my bachelors so cant get financial aid, i doubt i can work enough in the next 2 months to afford it all...

there must be some way to help pay without crazy interest rates on loans : (

anyone else feeling hopeless in the case of tuitions?

I'm in the same boat but I've already been at this school for 2 semesters. I get financial aid (just federal loans) and it isn't enough. I just finished the 1st nursing semester and the nursing courses are ridiculously expensive. I applied to one big scholarship in May but you don't start hearing back until August and then I applied to several smaller ones but still nothing. I was able to get the Perkins loan and nursing student loan from the financial aid office. Totaling 6,000, so you should ask to see if you can get any loans from your school. I just picked up a part-time job, that I plan on working full-time 32hrs to save up the money that I need to register for this semester. Mind you I already work FT nights so I'm going to be a walking zombie. :dead:

I wish you the best of luck, I'm in the same predicament so nothing but support going your way.

I know how you're feeling! For me it's not tuition, I do get some F.A to help with that and I go to our local C.C, but the cost of everything else! It's just insane. $900 for core books, $150 for lab, then there's at least another $200 in supplemental books, and I can't buy them from anywhere but or bookstore. We need a special access code that is twice as expensive if we don't buy their package.

Our uniforms are $100, the student EHR I'd another $85... and none of that includes the money we have to spend getting all our medical and entry work done. I've spent at least $200 on the background check, dr appointments, and my cpr class. Plus I'll have to get all the goody supplies like a bp cuff, stethoscope, shoes, and Ugh I don't even know what else but it's at least another $250.

I feel so thankful because I have a very supportive husband, and so horrible at the same time because he had been working overtime for almost two weeks to help cover everything.

yeah...i am taking out a private student loan and a personal loan ....yay debt.

thanks so much for the supporting comments. i applied to HRSA and that should cover everything, provided i get it, but i doubt it, its still under review, but my EFC isnt 0. even a partial scholarship from them would be amazing!

im applying to every scholarship i see, i know the school offers some after the first semester, but there will be requirements or conditions on that as well...

im just looking at all the costs PRIOR to the start, and its insane, with all the materials and things we have to buy. its insane. there has to be some better way but there isnt lol

Hey Zibi! How did your finanicial situation work out?? I ended up switching to Cedar Crest's part-time summer program after getting a 10k bill for 2 semesters!! So I will be starting in the summer and I hope that will give me time to get my loan out of default!

How is the program going???

You have two choices in life - Suck up the money portions and loans and go to college and have a career that pays fairly well and there are jobs once you become established, its the first job that is difficult, and who knows you may go to work happy.

OR

Don't go to college and struggle looking for jobs, possibly for the rest of you life, but hey you want have student loans to pay back, which will be great since you may end up living check to check!

I'm with you, I was suffering from major sticker shock after I saw my estimates. I wrote a letter to the financial aid office begging for any help since I quit my full-time job and started a part- time job to start this program, and they were awesome at helping me qualify for scholarships and aid through the school. Also I've been picking up shifts left and right & working tons of hours up until I start school in a few weeks to pay cash for my books, background check, scrubs, stethoscope etc. So far I have barely scraped up enough for all of that paying it one item per paycheck... I was blessed to get a few small scholarships and some financial aid and I had to take out a $5k personal loan, but everything else was covered. (out of $27k for one semester at my school $5k is NOT bad) hopefully since I'm now working part time and our income is reduced even further, next year we will qualify for more FA. I'm not looking forward to starting all over again to try and come up with enough to cover next semester! Good luck to you, keep telling yourself that this is an investment that will pay off for the rest of your life!

TWENTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR ONE SEMESTER????? Wow....did you have any loans for your prerequisites?

The current rate on Direct Loans is 4.66% until June 30, 2015. Here is a link Direct Loan Page for Students I don’t think that is too high considering my mortgage is a 3.25% with 35% down at a 15 year term (and it is a secured loan). I am not sure if you have met the aggregate limit with undergraduate loans, but if not, you can borrow Direct Loans at the above interest rate.

I know right!? I took my pre reqs at a community college to save $$, fortunately I was able to qualify for pell grants that covered most of my expenses, I borrowed about $4k for my prerequisites over the course of 3 years that it took me to complete them, so I'm starting off with minimal debt and hoping not to accrue too much more.

200 for a background check? Crap. I paid 55 for both the state and federal.
