Nervous to start Nursing school

Hello everyone,

I have never posted on here but have given a couple of thumbs up here and there :poto:

Anyhow, I begin my RN program at Salt Lake community College in 2 weeks (Jan 15th is my first lab day)and I am sooooo scared. Ive had these weird dreams that I am in class and I cant talk or I'm dressed in a haltar top and its beyond inappropriate. I want to do well and I feel like I will be an awesome nurse one day. I know many of you have felt this pre-nursing school anxiety. Any kind words of encouragement would be appreciated. :shy:

Congrats and take a deep breath. Relax and have a little fun before school starts. Get your tools and materials ready for action. You'll be alright!

I am so nervous too! I start LVN school Jan 20th! Good luck to you.

I suggest you do as dorkypanda suggests. The first day of nursing school is often very full of anxiety for new students. The reality is that the first day will be a lot like the first day of any class. There'll be introductions, you'll go over the "green sheet" where you will all learn the expectations of the class and you may have your first lecture. It's all going to start off very basic and you'll soon find yourself in a routine, just like any other semester of school. Eventually you'll start going to clinical and you'll be ready for that - nervous, but ready. Soon the semester will be over and you'll actually be yearning for the next semester to get underway...

For now, relax, have fun, find your necessary books and supplies, get your calendars ready (and fill them out with due dates) and the insanity will begin all too soon...

Ha! I had dreams where I showed up to nursing school orientation with pink and blue streaks in my hair and was sent home. This makes sense because I, in the past, have often rocked pink and blue streaks in my hair. My nursing program has made it clear that hair must be somewhere in the "natural spectrum". I think our anxiety is normal; it is new and we have only a slight, second-hand, non-solidified idea of what to expect. Come January 12, I will have normal color hair and I can only assume your shirt will cover your mid-section. We will be just fine. :)

I start my program Monday, and trust me feeling nervous/anxious/scared is totally normal. We all feel it to some degree. I feel a cross between wanting to jump up and down with excitement yet throw up because I'm scared. So yes, I can understand the dreams!;) Find something within the next couples of weeks that you enjoy doing that will help relieve your stress and anxiety. And don't forget to spend lots of time with family and friends, have lots of laughs.

Orientation is Wed Jan 7 for me, and I feel "omg what have I gotten myself into?!" creeping up the back of my neck.

I think you'd be nuts not to feel nervous. You're starting something that defines your future.

Don't be nervous, it will come at you fast once you've settled in, and you won't have time for those nerves. Be excited, not nervous! I don't think I was ever nervous during first semester except first day of clinical, just before tests, and during skills check offs in lab. I was excited though! You'll be fine!

Its so nice to know I'm not the only one feeling anxious about starting. I was just accepted into a program that starts in May and the past few days I've started to become more anxious about it. I bet you all are doing great, keep up your hard work! Thanks for the posts of encouragement!
