  1. At my school only 95 or above is an A. I got a 94.6 in Pharmacology II this semester and was jumping up and down when I found out my teacher rounded up!
  2. I wish I could live at home, rent free with a live-in baby sitter, while in nursing school. Instead I worry about how my daughter will get diapers and we live off top ramen while I fall asleep studying. If I can figure it out you can too. Be thankful for what you got.
  3. Just completed my first semester of nursing school and I worked around 32 hours a week throughout. I'm also a single mom to a sweet little one year old girl. I think staying organized, sleeping enough, and "choosing my battles" so to speak, helped me get through it. I think anyone can do it if they are committed to accomplishing their goal. Don't let anyone discourage you.
  4. Just completed my last class of this semester which included Nursing Fundamentals/Clinical ,Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. I feel you. I always felt like I was cramming before tests even though I had studied for at least 345 hours in the few days prior. At some point people just left me alone because they knew if I have ANY free time(I don't) it was used to study. The amount of information we have to recall, comprehend and apply for the rest of our career is just obscene. Nobody gets it unless they are knee deep in care plans, adverse drug effects for fifty million drugs and the defining characteristics of about 400 separate diseases all of which include nausea/vomiting/headache :)
  5. Hi, I am a first semester nursing student. I have a 11 month old daughter and her father is out of the picture. I also work part time and attend school full time. There are days when I feel completely overwhelmed with the volume of work and exhausted with it all then I see my kid's smiling face and then I remember why I am doing it. My child is my motivation. the hardest part to me is creating a balance of school, work, mommy and never neglecting her unnecessarily. So far I am doing fine. Find reliable daycare and stay organized. You can do it!!
  6. I want to be a nurse because I like making people feel comfortable and help people triumph through difficult, adverse situations. I want to lend my strength to those who need it most. I am the oldest sibling of 6 kids so I have always been the nurturer. I cannot imagine doing anything else.
  7. Good luck to all of us who are just starting nursing school!! I start in just two days and have been reading all of the required chapters 2 times and a week before in an attempt to stay ahead of the torrent sure to come. I am also a single mom of a wonderful 9 month old who keeps me very busy. Im surprised and proud to see so many single mothers pursuing nursing it gives me faith! I still have to work to support her and myself but I'm limiting my schedule to no more than 28 hours per week. It will be hard but I once heard nothing in life worth having comes easy. I am approaching nursing school with two terms tattooed in my mind: "discipline" and "organization" I feel as long as I remember to stay disciplined, meaning leaving no other option but to keep up with reading, clinical assignments, attending every class and being on time. Im already halfway there. Being organized saves so much time I find. You're not wasting time searching for a random paper, instead you took the time to collate/arrange all your necessary documents and thus know exactly where it is and can reference it quickly. I have had plenty of obstacles preventing me to actually starting my program but now that I'm here(two days people)I am damn sure not going to let anything stop me. Just remember you can do anything you want to do if you want it bad enough. :)
  8. Hello everyone, I have never posted on here but have given a couple of thumbs up here and there Anyhow, I begin my RN program at Salt Lake community College in 2 weeks (Jan 15th is my first lab day)and I am sooooo scared. Ive had these weird dreams that I am in class and I cant talk or I'm dressed in a haltar top and its beyond inappropriate. I want to do well and I feel like I will be an awesome nurse one day. I know many of you have felt this pre-nursing school anxiety. Any kind words of encouragement would be appreciated.
