I got my letter...

but it didn't have the reply I was hoping for. The 2nd line was "all available spaces have been filled." So needless to say, I'm pretty bummed, since I was really hoping & praying to start the May program.

I spoke with several of my Micro classmates last night, who also applied when I did, and found out they received the same letter. Apparently, like many other programs around the country, there are more applicants than available spaces.

However, in the long run, its probably for the best. My husband will hopefully be employed full time as a teacher starting in the fall (he's just been substituting this semester), so I won't be as worried about quitting my job to go to school, and it gives me a chance to retake my PSB-NAT, and get a little higher score. Plus, I'll have my grades for Micro & Sociology posted when I apply again by June 1st, for the September session, so that will raise my "points" that they use to determine who gets accepted. And I've already signed up for Humanities and Nutrition for the summer semester, so that will be two more classes closer to my degree, too. I guess it just proves the old adage, "when God closes a door, he opens a window."

Congratulations again to all that have received their acceptance letters, and best of luck to those still waiting.

:o Sorry to hear you didn't get in yet. But I think you've got a good plan going. I won't be finding out if I get into our nursing program until sometime during Fall quarter (am scheduled to take the pre-admission exam at the end of the summer)...and our school has a waiting list as well. So my plan is to take as many co-req's as I can. If it takes another year or so to get in...that'll be ok. I figure I'll get in all 3 of my A&P courses, microbiology & pharmacology that way without having to worry about taking them alongside the nursing courses. ;) (actually...I think I'd prefer it that way anyway!)

Hang in there & keep truckin...you'll get in.

It is obvious that you have a positive attitude. That will work wonders to help you reach your goals. It will be so much easier to go through the program with less classes to take so it will probably be better for you in the long run. Good luck to you and don't give up! I was turned down last year also so I know exactly how you feel. I am glad now that I did not get in when I first applied because I would have had way too many core classes to try to work in. You will get there!!! :)

Susan,

I'm so sorry things didn't work out as you had hoped they would. :o

In addition to that good attitude, you have a plan B in place, which I think is just so important when the admissions are so competitive. I know I've made a "back-up plan" so I can go forward with my dream, even if the admissions folks don't look kindly on me this go 'round.

It'll be Fall before you know it!

I also got one of those letters for a program starting in June. It was dissappointing, but the way I see it, everything happens for a reason. As you said, it would probably be better for you to start in May anyway. I'm glad you are able to see the positive side!

Now I'm waiting to hear about the Fall program I applied to. They've made their decision, now I'm just waiting for that letter!

Susan, sorry that it didn't work out for the summer, but at least you don't have to wait another full year to apply. My own plan if I don't get in this fall, is to take the only two classes I need to qualify for the BSN at one of the state univesities. Although it will require me to travel about 50 miles a day each way, I will have my BSN a year earlier. I always try (as I get older anyway) to make things a win-win situation. If I don't get in, yes, I'll be sad for a little bit, but as many of us nontraditional students now, time goes so much faster.

Good Luck for September!

Awww sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for. Glad to see you are looking on the bright side......and remember, they'll always need nurses, so do what you can for now & look forward to starting the program a little later than you expected. It will all work out for the best.

I just found out that I got admitted to the University I was really hoping to get into. However, we all know that does not mean acceptance into the College of Nursing. At least I can start working on the 6 pre-reqs I need for the BSN.

Best of luck. Not getting in is a bummer, and I may face that fact soon...but there's always tomorrow and you can always start chipping away at those classes that are necessary to graduate or make your application look stronger next time around.

Keep you chin up!

Awe hugs Susan, that really stinks. I am sorry you have to wait. Good luck to you for the September term.

My son is trying to get in and was told a 2 year wait at minimum maybe three. He is considering getting his LPN so he can at least work and make more money that he is now as a tech at the local hospital. He is very bumed as well.

Oh sorry to hear you didn't get it :( But I'm glad to see your looking at the bright side of it all. I am sure you are not alone with this either, nursing school can be hard to get into! Looks like the next semester you shouldn't have any problems since you will have more classes under your belt (and that way less pre reqs to take for your BSN as well which is a good thing)

Good luck!
