I can't believe this just happened!!!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Here is some background information first: My school just opened a multimillion dollar health education building with all the bells and whistles! (We are the first cohort to have access to all the shiny stuff!) There have been multiple tours from other schools and groups coming by since the quarter started.

Fast forward to yesterday, I was waiting for a friend to be done with her skills check off test. I was chatting with another student when a group of well dressed people came by and then we saw our nursing program director and said "hi". Then a man stepped out from behind her and asked if we were students when we said "yes" he handed both of us business cards and said "we are hiring" then left with the rest of the group. Upon closer inspection of the card I realized that it said President and CEO of blank!!!

Here's the kicker, I didn't realize until I showed my husband the card that he left his personal cell phone number on the back HANDWRITTEN!!!!

So here entails my question, obviously he's not going to remember me two years from now when I graduate (plus his info could change) so should I contact him in a few days and what should I say?!?

Thanks in advance!!

Very cool! I would maybe follow up with an email in a few days reminding him off the interaction, thanking him for the contact info and letting him know that when you graduate on X date you plan to apply to that company and you hope it will be OK if you get in touch with him at that point just to let him know you applied. And then when that time comes, absolutely follow up with an email.

I'd be interested to hear what others think. Even though he put his cell # on the card, I wouldn't call it, esp since you aren't graduating for a while.

I think the follow up email would be a great idea. Say something like "It is great that the (BLANK) organization spends time to provide interest in the education of future nurses. It is nice to see support from the management of healthcare organizations in the area."

Something like this would be good. People like to hear praise and if you make it professional then it would be more likely that your name would be remembered. Also make him aware when you will be graduating....

Very cool.

I'm assuming blank is a hospital, and if so I think shooting him an email in a few days expressing your thanks and interest would be appropriate. You can also inquire if they have a nurse apprentice program you can work in while in nursing school. Good luck.

I think contact him ASAP! This is obviously a huge door that has opened for you. Don't wait for it to close.

Was this a hospital, a home health care agency? What kind of business was it? What makes me nervous about this is you say your school goes by quarters. I guess I need more info on both. Did you introduce your self to him? Do some research on what company he was from first before making any decisions.

It is a hospital and clinic chain well known in my area (hence the privacy), and none of the schools in my state (except private ones) go by semesters. Also this is the agency that I've wanted to work for since I've wanted to be a nurse!!

Thanks for all of your replies! It has been two days since the meeting and I plan on emailing him after my clinic this morning! :)

Specializes in Hospital Education Coordinator.

hope I did not mis-read this but did he single you out with his phone number or did others get the same attention?

It was only myself and the girl I was talking to that he gave his card to. (We were waiting for our turn to check off on a skill). I don't know if he talked to anyone else that day (the other students that were waiting to go after us were in the hallway) but I don't really think it matters. I this is my "foot in the door" and I'm going to take it!!

^i read it as if he gave his number for...non business reasons. That's just me.

Oh no he gave me a business card from the company with all the official contact numbers on it then on the back of the card he hand wrote his #

His intentions have nothing to do with employment....he is trying to hook up with you.....ask your husband and see what he thinks.....
