Husband is not ready for me to go to nursing school!!

  1. Ok long story short i have always wanted to become a nurse and alot of things were holding me back before. Now i am ready to go get my LVN and then bridge over for my RN but my husband is being mean about it. I am supposed to start my LVN school January and he told me today that he does not want me to ruin his dreams of graduating because me going to nursing school will set him back from graduating. He hasn't even started school yet. We also have 3 kids and maybe that's why he is freaking out i don't know but i am tired of pushing my dreams back. So i guess i would have to remove myself from the next class that starts in January. He complains about me not doing anything with my life and i go ahead and get accepted and he wants to act like this and goes off on me telling me that i could've done this when he was a truck driver and blah blah blah!! I don't know what to do anymore

    I have so many questions.

Do you work? Is going to school going to put a financial strain on your family? How are you paying for school?

I'm thinking that maybe you two could see a therapist to iron out some issues? Because going to nursing school with 3 children definitely requires the enthusiastic support of a spouse.

He is supposed to be your life partner and support you.

Choose your battles wisely. It's going to battle that should not happen.

There is more meat here than we can cover on a simple bulletin board of strangers. I suggest you go to family counseling, because no matter which way you go, someone is going to be bitterly unhappy and it is going to rip your family to shreds.

^ This. These are some wise words. It's a bad omen that your husband is already having issues with you going to school and you haven't even started yet.

The army(i am a us veteran) is paying for my school and they will also pay me $1200 every month while i am in school.

    That does not matter.

As much as I'd like to help, I feel like this is more a marriage issue than a nursing school issue. I think you and your husband need to have a chat about the future and what you both expect. Counseling wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

    Best of luck to you.

You are wanting us to take your side. Your marriage is bigger than your schooling. It could pay a billion dollars, but if your husband is upset by it, you need to listen, and he needs to listen to you as well. You two NEED a trained, neutral party to work through this.
