How many of you...

How many of you are required to take a HESI, every semester, in your school?

I'm asking because my school requires us to. They basically serve as a final for each semester and count as 40% of our grade. They are supposedly written NCLEX style and are designed to prepare us for the exam.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Telemetry, ER.

We are required to complete Evolve case studies through out each semester. Then required to complete the online practice HESI. At the end of every semester we have to take the HESI, and the conversion score (the percentage, not the points) is worth atleast 10% of our final grade. If we score less than 900 points then we have to remediate.

At my school we were required to take them every semester but they didn't count for anything. During my senior year the hesi was used as a final for two of my classes. We also had 4 tries to get an 850 or above on the exit hesi. Those who didn't pass by the 4th time now have to wait until next january and re-take capstone, clinical hours, and pass the hesi.

Yes we are required to take it and it counts for our grade and the exit hesi determines if we are able to sit for boards and it is very frustrating

We take the Kaplan every semester for 5% of our grade to prep us for the NCLEX.

we take it every semester - I believe all nursing schools have to. it's more of an aptitude test reflecting the school - it shows you how well you do compared with the rest of the country overall.

for us, it doesn't count towards our grade, but usually if we score above an 800, the Prof will give us two extra points on our final (big whoop)

I would be ****** if the HESI was counted AS my final, because I thought the questions were selected at random! How can your Prof say it's a fair final if it doesn't reflect what you went over in class? sounds like laziness to me.

I will say, however, the HESI does prepare you a bit for the NCLEX - at least that's what I've been told. I'm taking my last HESI next Wed and my NCLEX in July.

Its not required at every school. At my school we don't have the Hesi or ATI exams. Just our regular exams.

This is what my school's handbook says:

"Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) tests are used throughout the program as a means of evaluation. ATI provides standardized specialty exams as well as a comprehensive ATI Predictor exam which measures NCLEX readiness. The ATI specialty exams (fundamentals, maternity, psych/mental health, pharmacology, and pediatrics) will be given at the end of corresponding courses and will count as a predetermined percentage of the student's test grade as noted in the class syllabi. In addition, students who fail to achieve the minimum national recommended ATI proficiency level will be expected to do remedial work in that specialty area and retest."

and

"As part of NUR 499 Senior Seminar, students will take the RN Comprehensive ATIPredictor Exam. This is a test that evaluates readiness to the take the NCLEX(licensure) exam. Students will be required to make a minimum ATI score, asdetermined by the scoring standards of ATI, to successfully complete the course.Students who are unsuccessful will have an opportunity to remediate and retest asecond time. If a student is unsuccessful a 2nd time the student will receive an "F"in the course and be required to repeat the course in the following semester. Ifthe student has a previous "D" or "F" being transferred into the nursingprogram or made a second "D" or "F" while in the nursing program, making a"F" in NUR499 will constitute the second 'F" and the student will be dismissedfrom the nursing program (current policy - see SON progressions requirements)"

It didn't say anything about the HESI.

Our school has just implemented it starting with our class. We will take it every semester and it will be 5% of our grade. Any idea how much it cost for each test? We haven't gotten much info about it.

We have to pay a $300 fee first semester that covers all of our testing.
