How far in to the semester does/did your clinicals start?

  1. I'm very curious as to when you actually start clinicals. Was it the beginning of the semester, middle or end or even before the semester started like in the summer? I don't know how it works at my CC....I do know that we have to purchase uniforms for it....we only have it one day a week from 8:30 to 2:20....is this unusually long.....I see I'm going to have to get my feet and legs prepared.....lol.

It depends on what semester your in. Last semester (2nd semester) we started 6 weeks into the semester. This semester we started the first week. 6 weeks of med/surg, then 6 weeks of Peds.
No, 8:30-2:20 is not long at all. lol. Mine are two days a week: 7-9 hrs. Today it's 12-8, tomorrow it's 7-2.

Oh, and last semester, the first 5 weeks of class included 2 3hr skills lab a week for the first 5 weeks, this semester, the first 7 weeks: 2 3 hr skills labs each week. A killer I think when you've got 2 days of 2 1/2 hrs of theory and two days of 8hr clinical rotations.

This will be my first semester, and we start after 4 weeks. It will be one day a week all semester. After just 4 weeks, we will probably just make beds, take vitals, etc.

We didn't start clinicals until the 2nd semester and we started going to the hospital at the middle-end of it. But from 3rd semester until the end, we went/will go to the hospital the 2nd week since these classes are only 8 weeks.

At my school we started clinicals about 5 weeks into the first semester. 6:45a - 3:30p. Occasionally we're done before 3:30 depending on which instructor you're with, but you can never count on that.

My first semester we started after 4 weeks..the first 2 weeks of clinicals were at a nursing home, then we started the hospital. Every semester we go 2 days a week, about 7-8 hrs a day + 30min-1hr for post-clinical discussions. Of course, when you tack on travel time (some of our clinical sites are 1hr+ travel time) it seems like clinical takes your whole day!! Plus, this upcoming semester, our OB clinical is at night, 1-9pm, then 1 hour travel home, and lecture class is at 0800 the next morning. ZZZZZZZZ Good luck to all those starting school this fall!

First semester we started at clinicals after three weeks of lab. One day/week in long term care x 10 weeks. Our days were 7a-1:30p.

Second semester we started the first day of school! Two days/week x16 weeks in med/surg and psych (8 weeks of each). Our days were 6:45a-3:30p. Third semester will be the same as second, probably med/surg and maternity/peds.

Our first clinical started after the first 8 weeks of the first semester. We had skills lecture T/Th (0800-1100), clinical M/W (0630-1330), and assessment class on Fridays. Now, in my third clinical, we still go 2xwk, but it's been lengthened to 0630-1415. Looking forward to the end of school.

Just curious as to how they start you in clinicals. Can someone set the first day at the first clinical scene? Do they just set you loose or is there so many people under one person? Is your instructor there with you? HELP!!!!! LOL Im scared, can a few of you tell me if you were as worried as I am, maybe your feelings before your first clinical as opposed to after? Like were they as bad as you anticipated them to be? What are some of the things they have you do in your first semester clincials? Mine will be 1 x week from 7a-12:30pm, so sounds pretty close to a few of yours. UGH....lol, the "unknowns" kill you, dont they??:uhoh21:

    THANKS
