Specializes in Hey I'm now an RN!!.

This is a quick check-in with you all.

Just wondering how the majority of you are doing. Do you like school so far? Study much? Doing well? Stressed?

Things are going well here. They break up our first semester into nursing 110 & nrsg 111 (fundamentals). I am almost done w/ 110!!! 2 more weeks of clinical then my final. Then onto 111. Time seems to be flying, I hope the next 1 1/2 years goes this quick!!

I'm still excited, can't wait to be done though:chuckle

well wishes,

Mandy

I just completed week #5 of semester 1 (4 semester program).

It is even more work than I ever expected. I feel like that is all I am ever doing. We have had one exam in fundamentals, 2 skill check-off, and our math competency exam.

Next week we have our exam over fluid and electrolytes, ABG's and urine. We also will be checking off on the oral med. procedure, have our first careplan due in clinicals, and take another exam on Friday for our nursing cultural class.

I am going to head to a study group tonight that will be studying from 5:30-11pm. So far I am doing great in class, but definitely put in the work to obtain the grades.

Balancing what is expected with having a family to care for is also challenging. Luckily my husband has been understanding and helpful and my boys (3&6) have adjusted perfectly to full-time school and daycare. It is going by quickly...hopefully that will continue!

Lucky me....Monday starts week 5 of semester 1 of 6 semesters  .......So far we've taken one test which wasnt quite what I expected. I expected to be a whole lot harder! :chuckle Learned alot of theory and definitions.....havent studied quite as much as I thought I would be (probably because its still the beginning)......typing my first paper as I cruise the web (i needed a ten minute break) hope it turns out to thier liking!!

I hope everything is going well for everyone else........ :)

Hi Mandy!

Doing very well, here. My course load is lighter than some this term because I took a required class ealier this summer. It's been fun! I've met some great people who are becoming friends, we're working hard at our studies and time seems to be speeding along. We start skills lab next week, and then clinicals begin at the end of October. I'm keeping on top of the reading, and paying attention in class and learning a lot. So far, so good!

Don

I just started last thursday. Only one day of clinical lab and lecture. I am anxious about really getting into things

Specializes in Hospice, Internal Medicine.

My semester is broken into 2 classes as well. I have two weeks left of the first one. I have taken two tests so far, they were a lot easier than I anticipated. I have also passed 3 competencies: vital signs, safety, and restraints. We still have ROM and transferring/positioning for this semester. My mid-term evaluation with my clinical instructor is on Monday. My stress level has finally started to drop and I'm feeling more comfortable/confident. After reading a previous post, I'm very thankful that my careplans are only 3 pages long :) They take about 3-4 hours due to the rationale but I'm getting the hang of them. I study a little bit less than I was the first few weeks because I know what my tests are like now. NS still consumes most of my life though!

I'm on the quarter system at my school. Right now I'm in the first 2 nursing classes (Human Response and Assessment) and a nursing math course. We've already had our first exams in each of the classes (we started the term the day after Labor Day) and I've gotten back the nursing exams...one was a 91% and the other a 90%...both of which are B's (ugh). Still waiting to get the nursing math exam back...tonight's class was cancelled.

So far, so good. I find it to be a bit boring right now, since I already know most of the stuff they've been covering. I haven't been studying too much because of that fact! So, no...not too stressed out. Just on the week that we had the 3 exams. That was a bit annoying, but we all got through it ok. :)

Hoping the next 6 quarters will fly by!!

Specializes in Home Health Care.

I just checked off on sterile dressing changes today, next week is.....catheterizations.

We also have tests over the endocrine system next week.

It's going good so far, I'm amazed at how much I'm learning.

Clinicals are great. We are in our 5th week of LTC.

Hi, All,

I started week 6 of a four-semester ADN program today, and everything's going great. I made the big mistake of trying to work part time and go to school full time while taking care of a household, (what in the world was I thinking?! ROTFL) so I quit the job and have been playing catch-up ever since. We've had two nursing fundamentals exams, a dosage calculations quiz, and an anatomy & physiology exam. All A's so far, yay, but I put in the requisite time. I, too, am making what I hope will be lifelong friendships with many good people. AND I'm having a blast!

School has been a big adjustment for me. There is so much reading and honestly, it is not the most interesting stuff in the world. Thankfully, I am doing very well so far. I passed my first lab practicum on handwashing/vital signs. I'm doing very well on the quizzes and I take my first lecture exam on Monday. I'm actually kind of nervous about that but I have a pretty good study technique that is working for me. Clinicals started out kind of bumpy but last week was tremendous. I left the LTC facility with such wonderful feelings of accomplishment and respect for our future profession. I can't wait to dig in this week, although I know that geriatrics is most definitely not for me.

I'm in my first semester of LPN school. I only have intro to nursing and pharm right now. Pharm is what I concentrate on most, seeing as how we have tons of homework assignments and 50 drug cards due in another month in there. I have exams every week, and I seem to be catching on actually pretty well. No papers yet, thank goodness! I will start my clinicals in Feb., can't wait to have the experience!

I consider getting on the computer a vacation from school reading and assignments! I eat, sleep and breathe nursing school. I am here to get an education, yes, but it has to be my life for five semesters and all my family has to take the back seat. Yes it is my turn in life to do something I want to do for myself. That is strange as I am going to be helping other people in some manner. Fundamentals of nursing is giving me a very hard time with the twisted questions asked on test.
