Hey guys, really need some advice here.... I am only in my second quarter of nursing school and already I am ready to give it up. Well....maybe not give it up, I have worked too hard to get here, but I am at the point where I don't even want to go to my labs or even open my books and study! How do you guys stay motivated? I know alot of you all have kids and families that motivate you and that is great. I just don't have that, all I have are three cats and a great group of friends. Believe me, I am not complaining about that, I have great respect for you all out there with families trying to do this. So tell me..... what motivates you to really be gung ho or hell, even get up in the morning and go to school?:p

It's not hard to run low on motivation when you are tired.... overworked...overstudied.....and stressed out. Nursing school is DAUNTING...the rewards however.... are great!

But remember to just focus one what is at hand.

Little bites.....little bites

When i am not motivated...... i tell myself motivation is not a pre req for going to class..... weird.... but it helps.

Once i get there.... i feel better....

oops, i meant to say focus ON what is at hand.

I hear you say you have a great group of friends. Do they call you in the evening when they are heading out on the town? Maybe this is where the lack of motivation is coming from. Maybe you should tell them not to call you until friday night to see if you arent to busy to go out?

Please understand im not saying your friends are bad, just wondering if your friends are causing some of your lack of motivation by sidetracking your concentration to where they are and what they might be doing as opposed to what you need to stay home and do. ???? just wondered.

i know and understand what you are going through navynurse. i'm in the 2nd semester of the 6 semester nursing program. and when i get home i feel so lazy and tired. especially after work. i really want to quit my job and just focus on school. its only 3 years of being unemployed. but i think a lot can be done when one is not working and going to school at the same time. its easy to work and go to school, but its very difficult to do it while in the nursing program.

my biggest motivation is competition. i want to demolish my other nursing classmates in terms of grades. i know thats hard to do since there is a lot of smart people in nursing program.

another thing is just to settle with the class average, that means get grades that fall in the class average. who cares about getting A's, as long as you pass and get C's or B's and fall in the class average for grades.

i have no more mortivation base on competition because my classmates in nursing are pretty damn smart, so i dont even bother competiting for the highest grade.

Ya know, I think the time of year has something to do with it. I've been feeling the same way lately.

Take some deliberate time out for yourself, just to do something you WANT to do. Then get back to your work and keep your eyes on the prize! It helps me, maybe it will do you some good, too. :kiss

i usually feel as you do about studying nearing the end of each semester.

this being my last semester, i am too eager to complete all necessary "tasks" and graduate, and this keeps me pushing forward.

take a "step" back, re-focus, and keep "breathing". hang in there!

Navynurse,

I'm one of those with a family to care for - husband, 3 kids, mortgage, house repairs, carpooling - on and on and on. I actually envy your situation with just the 3 cats - lucky girl.

For me at least, it's not my family motivating me - it's my dream/desire to become a Nurse that keeps me heading in that direction. Actually, having a family and so many responsibilities is making this so much harder to do. I don't know your age, but assuming you are young, just remember that this is a career you can have all your life - that alone should be a good motivation. If you get married and have kids someday - Nursing School and all the studying will be far behind you.

Your name is Navynurse - are you currently in the Navy or is that your goal? I'm a Navy Vet and know more than I want to know about Navy life - if you have any questions, just ask me.

Take Care, SusanNC
