Which stethescope did you get? Is it required for the nursing program? Are you starting this fall? Did they recommend a brand or type or was it totally up to you?

I feel like a big geek racking up scrubs, books and tools! lol I am expecting my stethoscope and sphygmomanometer (sp) within the next couple of months and I couldnt be more excited! lol

My Husband keeps telling me that I better be accepted...because I'm spending so much on Nursing stuff!!

I got a Littman Classic II S.E. in a turquoise blue. It is required that we have our own, and we were given a choice of a couple Littman styles. I chose this because I've read on allnurses how people like the Littman, and the Classic version kept popping up as good.

I am starting in the fall - nothing like being a little overanxious!! :rotfl:

The Nursemates shoes (sneaker-y looking) are SOOOOO comfy! I got 1/2 size bigger than my normal, and a wide. They feel awesome. I hope I still feel the same after a long day on my feet. :)

Yea, Littman is the better one (not the best..but who wants to spend a couple hundred for nursing school...lol). My aunts and my BF's sister all have had these and say its very good. After nursing school I will make an investment into something more expensive and preferably one of the best (hope no one steals it!). It will be my treat for graduating nursing school, which seems to be sooooo far away. I haven't bought any shoes yet for nursing school, but I wear all white sauconys (there like NIKE and FILA) for my CNA job, (they are comfortable esp. with gel insoles). You can go to http://www.saucony.com to check them out (runners usually wear these shoes.. go under cheerleading section for all whites). If anyone else can suggest anything brand name that sounds good for nursing school please feel free to share (btw I have flat feet so I do NEED comfort...which is why I wear custom gel insoles).

I've got my stethoscope too. It's the one that the school requires. It comes with a diaphram and a bell. It's a beautiful lavender color. I was buying books and I saw it. The next thing on my list is the "cuff".

I'm worried about the shoes too. I have terrible problems finding ones that fit correctly so I am anxious to find out what the recommend at my school at orientation May 3rd.

I'd try them. I had to call my school, because they specifically stated "No sneakers" on the uniform requirements. Since the Nursemates I bought look EXACTLY like a sneaker (but with the little blue heart), I wasn't sure if they meant those, are no all-white Nike's, etc. The woman at my school was really helpful and said that those were fine. A lot of students buy the white clogs, and unless you're a youngster with no back/foot issues, they didn't recommend them. She said comfort was #1 priority, though we had to try and keep with the uniform requirements.

I saw someone mention those gel insoles. I wonder if those will be a plus also. I do have some lower back issues from standing around for long periods, though not if I'm moving.

Or maybe I'm just putting way too much though into this, trying to make an excuse for not studying!! :chuckle
