We have 4 tests and our final. Test 3 put me in the hole in points. So I have studied for test 4 since spring break, including every day for the last 2 weeks for hours a day. I didn't do much better. I have to make a 89 out of 100 points on my final next week. I'm so upset. Less than two weeks before pinning and graduation. I have to call my employer and tell them I'm not going to be an RN and can't take my spot. I have to call my mom and tell her. I'm a C test taker, but excel in clinicals, which sucks. I've never gotten an A on a test in NS, maybe one B. I feel like I've failed everyone. I'm a class officer, and it just sucks to think that my name will be taken off the pinning program, and I won't give my speech, and all that. :o

I'm so sorry to hear that. Is their a way for you to make an emergency study group with friends that are doing really well in class?

I would stop focusing (I know its going to be hard) about the other tests and look to the future test and focus POSITIVELY about the final. Do not think that you are going to fail or do badly, hype yourself up to do positive on this test. You CAN do it! Please believe in yourself and think positively for the final.. You will be an RN (keep on saying that!).

Ok, first of all...CHIN UP!

You never know how things will turn out. Do your best, don't panic yet. DON'T call your employer until you know for sure.

I'll be praying for your...I'll discover soon enough how difficult nursing school is, but I am sure there are others in your position. You never know if an instructor might have mercy on you. Finals is the time when they can use discretion the most because studnets rarely get to see what they got on the final.

Don't give up yet!

Well, the way you're talking you already failed!

If you came here for encouragment, you came to the wrong place......

You need to believe in YOURSELF!

You have got to shake this notion of not going to your pinning ceremony and having to call your employer to say you are NOT going to be an RN.

Absurd!!!

You brush that negative attitude off and get to the library and study your pa tooty off!

Next, envision yourself getting pinned and reporting to work as a GN.

So as a man thinketh, so is he.

I don't know who said that, but it's good advice and I want you to start thinking like you were a nursing school graduate.

Getting a grade of 89 is NOT impossible.

NOW GET TO STUDYING!

you dont have to call anyone. You have not failed yet. If you dont believe in yourself you have already lost the battle. You will talk yourself into failing. You need to say I have come this far and I will make it. Trust in the Universe

this is a stupid question but what is involved in a pinning ceremony? :sofahider

I know EXACTLY how you feel. But do not call anyone until you know for sure you failed. I too need to do good on the final. I have told everyone that I am very afraid of failing. I never got a A on any tests either I even failed 2 tests this semester but I am still hanging in.

This is what I am planning it may help you to change your view point.

I went thru my schedule and wrote in my study times. One hour slots with 1 hr rest in between, I am following the study guide they gave me and will go over all my notes and make sure I understand what the study guide says on each subject. Making this plan has gave me hope and a spirit that this CAN BE DONE AND YOU CAN DO IT TOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A better way to study is one hour with 10-20 minutes breaks in between the hours.

Actually studies show that the best learning comes from studying 20 minutes at a time because that is all the info the human brain can effectively hold. Maybe try studying 20 minutes with a 5 minute break to get a glass of water, do some jumping jacks, or a quick snack? This is what I do and I have never made less than a B on any individual test and this semester I have a 3.7 so far; just waiting on one more grade to post.

I feel like I actually retain all the info too.

NurseMommyof3, Do you remember learning how to drive? The instructor always said "keep your eyes focused on where you are going." Then you'd drive by an accident off to the side of the road or someone with car problems or something and it would make you look off at their situation. . . The driving instructor would immediately say, "keep your eyes on the road in front of you, if you are paying attention to the mishaps along side the road, you will automatically veer over to the mishap." My driving instructor taught me a lot more than just driving a car!!! Keep your focus on that percentage you need for your test, tell yourself that you you will do fine and imagine yourself at the pinning ceremony!!!!!! You can do it!!

Here's what, NurseMommyof3. Make yourself a brightly colored stickit/posit note and tape it to the bathroom mirror or perhaps the mirror over your bureau....anywhere that you'll see it every morning until that final test.

Make it simple, to the point, focusing on the goal...graduation. Then pinning which WILL happen. STEP on the obstacle and use it as a springboard to graduation....something along the lines of: Keep your eyes on the prize or Obstacles are just stepping stones towards my dream or whatever else you can think of to inspire you and give you strength, hope and faith. Keep the chin up, do NOT even THINK another moment that you will not make that beloved 89 (or even higher!).....we all know that you CAN do it....you WILL succeed. If you "picture" yourself making that 89 or above, it might just happen. Don't think yourself out of less than your ultimate goal. 89 or higher and success! GOOD LUCK from those of us who've passed, those who've failed and kept trying, and those who are in the trenches looking on and cheering you ever onward!

Keep a postit or other kind of sticky note taped to your bathroom or bureau mirror where you will see it every day multiple times per day until that ultimate test....and STEP ON the obstacle as a stepping stone towards your goal of passing with more than the required 89 and graduating and making that speech, thrusting your chest skyward, exhaling one final moment of exhausted prideful empowerment of success as you are pinned.

A possible note for your guidance: Obstacles are only dreams not realized....keep your eyes on the prize,....other less cheesy ones I cannot think of at the moment...but you get the general pic....pick something that will brighten your day, keep you motivated, and cheerful.

I bet you that you will not only reach the desired 89 but will excel even that score.

You may be "overstudying" yourself into more angst than your memory bank can withdraw from!

It IS possible to "overstudy"!

I used to do that all the time to myself while in nursing school...and by the way, I, too, was an average "c" student...but a damn fine nurse once I did finally graduate...it took me three years to complete a two year nursing curriculum due to having too much on my plate at the time: two kids under three and a traveling salesperson as a husband who was gone mondays thru fridays!

YOU CAN DO IT...we're all rooting for ya!

Let us know how it goes. and GOOD LUCK!:mortarboard:
