We have OB and Peds at the same time but it seems like we're testing on it piece by piece. Right now we're doing newborn assessments and changes in the newborn after birth etc.
I have discovered that this is the last field I would ever work in. I am a father of two, s/p vasectomy, so I have no reason to know what the heck is going on in any newborn at any time. Don't get me wrong I love kids to death but I'm just not interested in this type of nursing. Anyway sorry, I guess I had to vent!
Just try to break it down into pieces: neonate, antepartal care, postpartal, intrapartal, toddlers, etc. You're right it's a lot of info...good luck!

Yeppers, Peds & OB as two separate classes. The Peds lectures are organized not by age group but by systems (GI was the first two weeks of lecture & we're moving on to cover Respiratory). OB is organized by antepartum, intra-, post-, neonate. The clinical assignments are divided so we have 7 wks of Peds clinicals (hospital + community) the first half of the semester, and we don't start the 6 wks of OB clinicals until after Spring Break. The instructors seem to plan the exams so we don't have them too close to each other.
Thanks for everyone's input. Actually, this is new for the program (and it's an Accelerated BSN program). They usually split it up. They decided to try it this way. And I find it incredibly hard. But I just have to do it!!!! I was just wondering if anyone had any studying techniques or ideas that they find helpful.
It was the same class for us, but it was 9 credit hours. We did all the OB stuff first, then transitioned into peds. Oh, PEdS was HORRIBLE!! It was like MEd-Surg on the really small and complicated. But I LOVED OB!!! I'm going to work in a NICU though, so hopefully, that "A" I earned in Peds will come in handy, LOL
This is my second semester in an ADN program and we have Peds, O.B., and O.R. all in this same semester, and I have at least 1 nervous break down week. Right now I am doing my O.R. rotation until Feb, then 4 weeks of going to daycares, schools, and doing home visits until March, then 4 weeks of Peds until April, then 4 weeks of O.B. until May, and then one big cumulative final on all of it. Really tough, my plan is to just try and pay attention in class and keep on top of everything. My instructors say that this is our sink or swim semester, and I plan on at least managing a back float:roll
good luck
