Annoyed by nursing commerical they keep running

Does anyone still see the nursing commercial that keeps running on TV. At the end it says "you're a nurse you make a difference." I don't why but it annoys me to no end. Enough already!!! Most schools have a year long or more waiting list just to get in. There is no nursing shortage. Anyone else feel the same way??

I don't recall in that commercial that they said there was a nursing shortage. And in my area the nursing programs don't have waiting lists. Lastly, nurses do make a difference.

mzchas, No the commercial didn't say there was a nursing shortage I agree. And of course nurses make a difference I NEVER said they don't but with the economy the way it is today why do they keep running this particular commercial? I never see advertisements for other professions being targeted like the health care field. Unfortunately, I'm not able to move to your part of the country but there is a waiting list at most schools I applied to in the northeast and what I hear from friends who are also on waiting lists.

They dont say there is a shortage but they ARE promoting "going into nursing is a good idea" http://www.discovernursing.com/ its Johnson & Johnson's "Campain for Nursing's Future"

My guess is the whole idea got started when there was a shortage and before the economy fell, and it has only now reached the public. It is annoying to me too.

oh and to add, here is the one i keep seeing...on youtube it lists it as a 2007 commercial.....and i KNOW i just saw it last week

I live in the NE too. And that J&J commercial isn't the only one that I've seen. What makes it bad is the song. If you're going to point out J&J point out all others.

The J&J ones are the only I have seen.....unless you count the technical schools that promote a "carrer in heathcare" making it look like nursing when it is likely a tech, CNA or MA training.

I haven't seen it either, and from your post, I don't understand why it is annoying.

its annoying from the standpoint of, even though it doesn't directly promote going into nursing, it does have a very heavy undertone of "if you want to make a difference, go into nursing", "nursing is the career field to be in right now". so with that it is annoying to those that already are looking at coming out of nursing school into an oversaturated job market, or those that that truely want to be nurses and can't even get into nursing school due to wait lists due to how many nursing students there are due to nursing being looked at as "the career field to go into".

so those commertials have nothing to do with a supposed nursing shortage? they dont say it directly but the are promoting people going into nursing.
