Age Check

Nursing Students General Students

OK, there's a lot of talk about changing careers, and getting into nursing at a late age. But, how late is late? I'm 51 and taking the leap (just found out that I've been accepted and can start work on my last pre-req, A&P) and, if all goes according to plan, I guess I'll graduate in 2006.

Anyone out there who'd getting into this at a later age? Or, will I be "Grandpa" to all the students?

I am 23, I will be 24 in Nov.

Its NEVER too late Ned. EVER.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

A woman in my class is 54.

I am 26, turning 27 in two months.

I was 32-33 when I went through nursing school and we had classmates of all ages. One lady in my class was 53. Everyone thought of her as an equal. No one even seemed to notice her difference in age. Like Lorus said ... It is never too late....

Same thing with that woman in our class that's 54, very conservative-dressing person, so when we were going over the mental health ward dress code, we tell her "so save the halter top and go-go boots for another day, ok?"

She fits in just fine, and she's way more technologically with it than i am! lol

Hello Again Ned:

I am 25, and hoping to get an acceptance letter very soon.

Specializes in critical care; community health; psych.

Never too late. I turn 49 tomorrow.

Go for it, Ned!

Ned

It is never too late. I was late 20's when I graduated but had several in my class 50 plus. I am sure that you will have alot of "life experience" that may actually make you more "experienced" than some of your younger classmates!! Good luck!!

Erin

I am 35 and just got accepted for January. When I graduate, I will be 37.

I'm 40, (graduating age will be 42), one of my dearest friends in the class is 49, and another lady in the class is 54.
