? about teacher behavior ctxt

Are we talking college, high school, middle school, or elementary school sponsored events?

College -- acceptable, providing the instructor does not overdo. Others, alcohol should not even be served, much less consumed.

Having said that, for many years alcohol was banned on our University campus, although I believe that's been changed in the past couple of years.

Are there students there consuming alcohol too? If it's school sponsered did the school pay for and provide the alcohol?

If it's a college event and all are of legal age I don't see an issue.

Are you talking college? Why would that be a problem (unless it was someplace like Brigham Young or Loma Linda)? I enjoy a nice glass of ETOH on occasion, and as long as you're *not* on the clock (or about to be) or doing anything illegal, I don't see a problem.

Edited to add another word that completely changes the meaning of my post.

Okay I have been trying to figure out what ETOH means.... I have gathered it means alcohol.... but cannot figure out what the letters stand for. :confused:

I'm feeling kinda dumb! Someone take pity and smarten me up a bit! :idea:

This is the best i can do. And yes i googled, because chem isnt really a strong suit, but here it is

An oxygen atom and a hydrogen atom at the end of the chain give an alcohol. Its name is obtained by adding the suffix -ol to the name of the carbon chain. Ethanol (figure 2), for instance, is ethane (C2H6) and an -OH group characteristic of alcohols.

So,, Et,,= ethane,(organic byproduct of furmentation process), O=Oxygen, H=hydrogen = an alcohol. Wont tell you what kind of alcohol,, just that it is alcohol.

Any organic chem people,, please correct me if im wrong.

Hey, I had one instructor on clincals, pass out and have to be driven home by a class mate. The driver got a great mark for that clinical and we were all too intimidated to report it to the school...

I think if it's a school sponsored event (college level) and alcohol is being served at the event - sure go ahead and a have a drink. Alcohol is legal. As long as they drink responsibly I see no problem. Teachers are people too!

foto---I would summize it would depend on the type of grain or other organic materials used in fermentation. My result used ethanol as "a for instance". With corn,, it would be ethanol. I have no idea, never said i was a chemist,, just googled and came up with a reasonable answer.

EtOH is the abbrevieation for alcohol that is used in the hospitals.... if someone comes into the hospital drunk or suspected of using alcohol, you don't write alcohol, you write EtOH.... I spent my very first clinical in a detox unit and we never wrote alcohol, bc taken out of context, what type of alcohol are you talking about???.... rubbing alcohol, alcohol wipes, alcohol in cough syrup, alcohol in cleaning solutions??? EtOH tells you that it was liquor, beer, or wine, and not something else.....
