Would you want to be your own nurse? Your own patient?

I read so many complaints on here; either about patients or nurses we work with. It got me wondering. Would you want to have YOU as a patient? Would you want to have YOU as a nurse? Really think about it and answer!:loveya:

I would want to be my own nurse....because I try to keep on top of everything and do things when I know they are needed ASAP...never discounting the patients words....

my own patient? well, I am pretty bad when I'm really hurting, but I am fine otherwise, I'll ask my finance to get my own blankets, water, etc as much as possible. I try not to be a call light strobe light...but if you let me talk to you as a medical professional, I'm ok. Don't assume I don't know what you're doing....

I would be both.

I DEFINITELY do not want me for a patient. I am very assertive.

and I DEFINITELY want me for a nurse.

When your doctor friends specifically ask for you in PACU, you know you're not so bad.

Yes, I would want myself as a nurse. I listen very closely to people, and I DO stay on top of things. I always try to be as kind as possible as well. I always assume the best of people, at least at first.

I think I'd also be a good patient. I'm very stoic when it comes to pain and I don't like people waiting on me or fussing over me AT ALL. Just be polite, do your nursing thing, and that's enough.

Then again, knowing what I know now, though, about some nurses, I'd be scared to death to be a patient nowadays. Most nurses I think I'd be hostile or suspicious of at first. They'd really have to bring it to prove to me they actually cared. Come to think of it -- I'd probably be asking a lot of questions just to check. The med thing would scare me to death.

Wow, come to think of it . ...I might not be the best patient now that I'm a nurse!

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

My flaw as a patient would be the neverending mouth. The last time I had outpatient surgery, the CRNA doing my preop said she would give me some ativan prior and I came back with "well now I'm little, please be gentle with the benzo's as I don't normally take them and don't want to wind up on a vent"... and she said, "THAT is why you're getting some ativan."

As a patient of general practice I'm not as compliant as I should be. I'm nice enough when I'm the patient, but you know you can just tell when some folks pay attention to everything you do, and it gets to ya? That'd be me.

Would I want to be my nurse? Maybe. I'm gentle with the hands, stern with some things like you have to be clean, get the basics done, etc. I guess it depends on the patient but sometimes I think my patients might be a little bit lonely with me as their nurse. I like to sneak in and out at night, and so if they like to sleep and get their drugs on time, they'll like me.

Specializes in NICU Level III.

I can't have me as a patient but if I had baby me as a patient, I'd want someone with a looooot more experience!
