Would You Call Out of Work for Mild or "Walking" Pneumonia

I was just diagnosed with pnumonia and my MD stated that he didn't think I should return to work for 4 days. I guess I am feeling guilty but am still hurting when I inhale and especially cough. It gets worse when I move around. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, especially since I have a doctors excuse but I was recently sick a few weeks ago and told myself I wouldn't call out from work again unless it was something major. We are already in a bind at work as it is. UGH!

I don't understand why people have a hard time calling in sick. None of us want to cause our coworkers to be short-staffed, but that is managements job to ensure they find adequate staffing.

If you are sick, call in sick...

Unless you want to be intubated with ARDS at work, I suggest you do.

Holy crap yes I would call off, had it about 15 years ago. No way I could have worked. I am thinking the walking part means you can stand up and take maybe two steps.

If your employer is unable to maintain a adequate census , they cut you without a second though . So why is it that when nurses are too sick to work , they don't think like management and cut themselves without a second thought ? .

OP you have a major illness , it may be walking pneumonia now but if you don't take care off yourself it may become carrying pneumonia , as in carrying you off to see your maker . Take care of yourself and I hope you get well soon .

We have some upper resp crap going around here and I recently called off for a week and a half (7 working days) I'm sorry if it was bad for my coworkers but I can not and will not work when I am sick (can't think, can't stand, take meds that make me IMPAIRED). Went back and it seemed like half the OR was hacking and coughing (staff & drs).

Call off, remember the word IMPAIRED. Actually my managers were very helpful, one day I tyred to go back and they sent me home. Alsom stay home until you are sure you will not have to take back off. At most places if you return to work and then call off again it is 2 occurances. That happened to me one year when I sick around Christmas, I went in on Christmas Day because I felt bad about making someone work that day, then then got in trouble for have to many occurances.

OMG ... I would LOVE such a good excuse to stay home for a week! If you are even thinking about going to work, your suffering must not be so terribly awful. So, if you were at home taking care of yourself, you could have a decent day.

I'm jealous.

You are too sick to work. Listen to your doc and stay home. This can get a lot worse really quick if you don't take care of it. Feel better.

My management will just let the work pile and then blame me for the length of time it takes to do the work when I get back. She doesn't care if I'm sick . Notice I said "she".
