That a fiberoptic IABP does not need to be leveled. Gee, I went to nursing school, and even I know that one.

If you don't want to be called in the middle of the night, just write the order "DO NOT CALL ME from 7p - 7a" and I won't bother you. When you come in the morning, you can like it or lump it what I've done to get your patient through the night.

Forget to order labs and x rays on your patient and get mad when I didn't know that's what you wanted. But, then when I do order something I think you'd want, you get mad about that too.

Complain to me b/c two other docs refused a patient and so now you're the consulting, I really don't care that you had stuff to do too...just take care of my patient.

I did not get my nursing license at K Mart. I worked very hard for it and my education. Just because I don't have MD behind my name does not equate to my being stupid. If I call to ask you something, I realize you have more knowledge than I do, that is expected, don't have an ego and rub it in.

Get mad when I do something you told me to do two hours ago...when you come back through, you want to know "who told you to do that?" I can't help it if you have short term memory loss and can't remember telling me to do something.

Please, if you make a mistake on an order and I bring it to your attention, just correct it and let me continue with my job. Don't argue with me for ten minutes and then change your mind and write what I suggested. You don't need to get all huffy when I dare to challenge your ultimate authority. I don't expect you to be perfect; I DO expect you to be reasonable.

PLEASE don't order morphine or dilaudid q2h!!! We floor nurses have several other patients and other things to do!

There is something called a ....PCA! Wow, that technology, I tell ya.

And for God's Sake, PLEASE don't order like the above and then also order phenergan q4h for your abdominal pain patients!

I gotta agree with a lot of these.

If I call you because your patient has poor UOP, Has a B/P over 160 (the call order you placed) then please don't get mad at me - YOU wrote the order......

    22. That I do not know every doc in the hospital by sight and if come on to my ward, don't introduce yourself, have no ID on and start fiddling with the notes trolley I WILL challenge you.
And don't do the offended act on me, I don't have time to care about your hurt feelings!
I'm sorry but thats just rude. I dont know why you think its your responsibilty to play neighborhood cop on the ward. If all they are doing is grabbing a chart, then let them be.

I think her point was that for all she knows, this doc could be some guy off the street, or a plaintiff's attorney/aggrieved family member/etc., in which case they have no business poking into charts.

Unfortunately this is the way life is right now. With lawsuit crazy people you HAVE to be proactive when an unknown person comes on the floor digging through charts. I can hear the inquirys now...
OK, nurse, you testified under oath that you did see this man looking at the chart. Did you see a name badge?
    no
Did you ask him who he was?
umm, no, I didn't want to be rude
So you are admitting that you were aware of someone going through a chart, did not see a badge and did not ask who it was....ever hear of HIPPA, nurse?

Can you say $10,000.00 fine? Ummm, no but thanks, I will be rude.

I don't think saying "Excuse me, but who are you and why are you looking at that chart?" is rude. If the doctor gets offended because you don't recognize Dr. Bigego on sight, that's his or her problem.

You are absolutely right, challenge away.

I've even worked in facilities which would have someone who worked in another department go to the floor, wander around, pull out a chart and pretend to be reading it, etc, just to see if someone would challenge that person.

I had to tell a doctor once, to stop the "slot machine eyes" when he rolled them at me. He wound up laughing his butt off. And he stopped doing that to me, amazingly. rofl. Just like a teenager that one.

Please don't give me a hard time about the time out before surgery or marking the patient. Yes, I know my right from my left...question is, do you? After all there have been cases throughout the country with wrong site surgery. Just trying to protect the patient, which is my JOB.

Don't give the circulator and scrub a hard time if the count is incorrect-stop suturing and look for the item...we're not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to protect the patient(as well as your license and mine!)

I will answer your beeper/ phone if you are on call. If the message is not urgent, then whoever is on the other end needs to wait. Also, if I am busy doing something for the patient, checking blood with anesthesia, or counting, I may not answer the page right away...I was absent the day they taught us that nurses=secretary.

HIPAA! We are supposed to challenge anyone without a badge in the hospital in restricted areas. I've challenged 2 men, both of whom turned out to be the CEO at the time (couple of years apart). After that, they made sure their badge was visible when they saw me in the ER

This just happened to me yesterday.
If you DO NOT have a pager and tell us to call your cell phone on all of your patients then please answer your phone or respond back to the message that I left for you about your patient who is in a lot of pain and is very nauseated from the anesthesia. I don't call you becasue it's fun, it's because YOUR patient needs something and I cannot write the order with out your permission. It's not in my job description to play find the doc.
Finally called the on call ortho and he gave permission for pain meds and to admit pt. Still fuming about that! If you have now decided that you do not want to be called on all of you patients like you have previously stated then tell the appropriate staff to relay that message so our patients can get better care.

If the hospital admin. chews your tail for being negligent with your patients, don't storm into the NURSE'S breakroom announcing that no one is allowed in because "You need your space". We all see the 2 candybars your skinny tail has hidden in your pocket....

And I will promptly open the door and walk in to get my orange next time too!
