Hi

am new in the nursing field and am so excited but since a have chosen this major all that i hear is that nursing is hard and tiring and after a couple of years the nurse gets bored from this job :uhoh3::confused:, but i don't listen to them and l insist into cotinuing in my studying .so if you can tell me the most beautiful event in your nursing life......

thank you:nurse::heartbeat

They may have had to come to the ER. They may have no where to go after or have no insurance to pay.

But tonight, under my care, they were fed, they were warm and they knew they were safe.

Even for a little while. That makes it ok that they weren't initially very nice.

(Sometimes I get a thank you!)

(Well, once...)

The joys of nursing are very personal and as unique as the individuals we are and the people that we encounter throughout our lives. In my career there have been many. I often feel that I should take the time to sit and write a book.

Past the satisfaction of program completion, graduation and boards, joys came from working with preceptors, the many "aha" moments when the critical thinking began and things began to make sense. When I could connect, recognize and accurately perform an assessment. to bear witness not only in the intimacy of birth and death, but in the awakening that comes when illness strips us of all the facades and we are humbled with the realization our own mortality. The moments that allowed me to show compassion even if in silence. Joy comes from feeling appreciated, from knowing that even when no thank you is heard, you know that you made a positive impact in someone's life.

That someone is often a patient but as an experienced nurse, many times it is now with a novice nurse :nurse:

When my patient's ask "Will you be here tomorrow?"

And when I reply "Yes I will" and they have this amazing smile on their face. It reminds me of all the good in nursing. I realize that "I have done something right!" I love being able to help someone and know what I did made a difference.

It really makes me happy when a patient that I took care of some time in the past remembers me and is happy with the care that I gave them. I strive to be as caring compassionate and empathetic as possible and I love the reward of knowing a patient had a positive experience in the hospital because I was the nurse!

These are nice to read for a change!

The best moment for me was one day I was walking around with my parents, and I was stopped by this women and she gave me a hug. I had no idea who she was and I must have looked at her like she was crazy, but when she pulled back she said I had been one of the best nurses that took care of her mother when she was ill and thanked me for care I gave her mother (i kind of remember her...vaguely). That really made me feel like I made a difference to someone's family. Plus it was good to know that I provide that type of care to everyone. I don't think I did anything special to make them feel that way but they felt like I did.

The second best thing to me is coming to work, getting stuck with the worst horrible patient, the nurse giving shift report complains about him, no one wants to have him..... and by the end of the day he is calling you his "baby girl" and refusing to have any other nurse but you. Every time he comes in (he is a frequent flyer) he always ask about his "Spanish Angel".

Those type of patients really make me feel that all the stress, all abuse, all the yucky stuff is really worthwhile.

The way God works through me

Making my patients not only smile but ... LAUGH!!!

It's music to my ears.

You're so right! It's refreshing to read that there really ARE other nurses out there that love their roles in life as much as I do! Thanks everyone for your input and keep them coming!:yeah:
