I have noticed recently that there has been a slew of negative topics regarding nursing so I would like to liven things up a bit for my very first post! Please comment below what is your most favorite thing about nursing since you've started your career?

As corny as it may sound, I loved making a difference in SNF patients' lives and watching them get better and go home. I also enjoyed LTC, where I built relationships with the residents and (sometimes) their families. :)

I love that no day is like any other. I totally enjoy the flexibility and I really like to engage with a variety of people - patients and coworkers/employees. After 20 y of nursing my focus has moved and I provide a lot of teaching and talk a lot as part of my job - I am convinced that the human connection is very important in nursing and essential. Not just the therapeutic relationship but relating to people on a basic human to human level (which is often lacking in one way or another in healthcare...).
I am not saying that nursing has been always easy for me - I went through some rough transitions and left jobs that were not good for me - but I like nursing itself and all the different experiences I had were helpful in shaping my own personality as well as how I practice nursing now.

Although my career hasn't exactly started yet, what I really like about nursing so far is that I get to experience and learn something new everyday. I especially enjoy connecting with my patients and seeing them get better and go home with their families.

Those high five moments that happen everyday when either I or we are able to work out a problem. All of the YEESSSS!! moments. Could be anything that I was able to help make happen.

I like that on some days I can make a difference in my patients lives. Granted, other days I feel like I am a glorified waitstaff. But other days I actually help people. I concentrate on the good days.

I recently went back to the hospital setting due to being in school full time. I've had several patients tell me that I am extremely knowledgeable and wanted to know how long I've been a nurse? Most don't believe it because I look like I'm in my early 20's but I'm actually in my 40's. One person flat out refused to believe I was that old. I told him I still get carded! I'm a float nurse and I appreciate when my patients ask if I'm coming back the next day and will I be their nurse again? They are disappointed when I say no but I'm glad that I made a difference for them that particular day that I work.

Flexible work schedule: I work a different schedule than my spouse and only part time so kids aren't in daycare. Love to run errands mid week or go places like the beach or mountains when less crowded
Good money where I am, paid for OT even if just 15 minutes

I love the patient interaction and making them feel better physically and emotionally. I like being able to support their families in decision making or just being able to cope. I like the hands on stuff- all the skills. I also like the pay and benefits.
