Weekend Only Shift

Nurses General Nursing

I currently work nights, shift work but have been offered a position that is days, weekend only. I have a child and think this would be nice for school and sports activities during the week.

Does anyone else work this schedule or have any thoughts? I have to decide by Tuesday.

Thanks!

Night shift breaks your body down, and to me, changes your personality. You will feel better with this new job.

I did it for almost 3 years during grad school, not bad at all, and it pays $14 more per hour than the average day shift during the week. The one weekend off every 6 months is a deal breaker though, I was allowed 2 weekends off (Sat & Sun only) per 6 weeks schedule, and I was usually plugged into the weekday shift of the person working for me that weekend. If I were planning to take full vacations (14 days off, 64 hours PTO) then it was only allowed twice a year. Are you sure you didn't misunderstand?

I've thought about doing this but for me it's not worth it. I'd have to miss all my son's games. Also, my kids did not want me gone the two days they are off every week. If my husband didn't work every other weekend I might consider it more. I think it works better if your kids aren't in school yet, your spouse is home, or you don't have kids at home. Also, our weekenders have to use vacation time to take off whereas others can just ask to not be scheduled for one of the 5 weekdays they may work. The money is awesome so hope it works out for you!

I wouldn't like it but to each their own. Forget having a social life, going to family events, weekends away, etc.

I work a weekend program and it's perfect for now. Once my daughter is old enough to do activities though, I anticipate needing to change back to a regular schedule. Depending on your base rate, an extra $7 an hour doesn't actually sound like that much of a benefit for signing away your weekends. I get a nearly 60% differential at my hospital.

I work weekends, night shift and we only get $3 extra per hour plus an extra 4 hrs per week added on. The money is better and since I live in vegas I still have a social life in the summers. When I take vacations I just switch with someone and its all good. Take it!
