Vegan parents arrested

Would someone please explain this to me? I don't really have a full grasp of what a 'vegan' is...I think it's the most restrictive vegetarian, but then, this couple wouldn't let their kid have breast milk? Why not? Link to the article:

Almost everything has SOME animal product in it, even if you don't see it. You have to really look at the labels.

And I agree with Heather. Those people are not right, and the fact that the dad was concerned that she was getting chubby when she was fed normally, tells me that his problem is NOT with veganism, but with some strange body-image thing.

The story may be wrong, but it says they gave the baby cod-liver oil. Well, that's obviously not vegan, but isn't it sometimes a laxative as well? An appropriate diet for a baby can come from soy formulas, as mentioned before!!!!

I think that veganism is getting alot of undue attention here. While I think it's not right for a growing, developing child, I'll put it aside for now.

In my opinion, the whole thing stinks of eating disorders. By standardized growth charts, the child was still below average after becoming somewhat nourished, yet the father saw her as "chubby"? And the whole laxative/cod liver oil use disturbs me. I'd be interested in the height/weight proportions of these parents.

Was the baby premature? I can't remember. If she was, I wonder how much it had to do with her mom's poor eating habits.

Heather

I hadn't thought of the cod liver oil/laxative angle...that makes it even worse...it's like they're just creating their own little anorexic/bulimic little child.

Most parents would notice that their babies were too small, had brittle bones, had a protruding stomach, wasn't growing/acting normally, etc...

Or maybe they did notice, and that's exactly what they wanted, since he was concerned that she was getting chubby. Maybe I've mentioned this in my earlier post, if so, I'll reiterate...

BABIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CHUBBY!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

This is so sad, that this child will always have problems b/c her parents are idiots...

Maybe they really do have their own eating d/o, therefore didn't realize how wrong they are...but they still should have been taking her to well baby checks, immunization visits etc, where this would have been caught earlier. So they didn't even meet that responsibility.

Hopefully she got her tubes tied after she delivered. ;)

PROUD CARNIVORE here! :D

I love my veggies too. But all this talk about this off-center couple(parent) makes me wonder there was never a license to raise kids. Some people need the obvious told to them.

I am pulling out a delmontico steak out of the freezer for tomorrow. I guess I'll be schedualing my open heart with the veggie surgeon soon.:)

Sixteen-month-old Ice Swinton weighed only 10 pounds, looked like a 2- or 3-month-old and was half the normal weight of a child her age when authorities discovered her close to death last November.

:angryfire :angryfire

:crying2: for this child. OBVIOUSLY, these parents have mental health problems and never took their child to a pediatrician for surely intervention would have occurred earlier.

I am all for a national database for newborns to track immunizations and sending VN to find kids who haven't been followed-up with checkups.

all kidding aside...This kid's name is "ICE"

???????????????????

I'll name my next child "Swizzle Stick"

Unbelieveable

:rotfl: Yeah, we were all so wrapped up in everything else we forgot about that horrible name. Further proof that these parents are insane...

Heather,

Check your bag of chips, Odd are they're fried in vegtable oil. No cholesterol. That's not to say you wont make cholesterol from it once you eat it.

This whole thing about the breast milk is a case where a little knowledge is dangerous. I haven't read the article but someone mentioned they use cod liver oil. Again these people are uneducated.

I have yet to meed a vagan who did not advocate breast milk. Whether the reason is animal protection (political) or a belief that animinal products are unhealthy or that humans were not meant to consume animinals not using human breast milk goes against all these various takes on being vegan.

You're right stupid people should not be allowed to breed. Think I'll go read the article now.

Bad typist/spellers (me) shouldn't be allowed either. God I wish I could post just once without having to edit and still have errors after I edit.

Ah, religion. There are a number of established religions that advocate a vegitarian diet. But none advocate what was done here. It never ceased to amaze me how people can twist a religions docterine out of shape. stupid, stupid, stupid.

Now in all fairness, I knew a family who named their kids Wind, Rain and Storm. I asked, it had nothing to do with the weather at the time they were born.
