up for new position

..at work. Rehab/medicare/LTC- They are opening up an 11-7 supervisor position I WANT THIS POSITION! I am planning on starting back at school this fall.

I'm currently working 3-11, have been here 19 months (which gives me seniority!), seldom call off and do

a darn good job

I think 11-7 will work out MUCH better for my family and myself. The new position seems to be more a "support" for each of the night nurses (2..one on each floor) as needed, entering orders into the computer, covering any orders in Assisted living, emergencies in ALU and Independent (200? independent apartments. a "selling point" is 24 hour nurse availability for energencies. basically we go over when someone presses a lifeline, and determine whether or not to call 911. EMS takes it from there..)

The Health Care administrator and DON will be interviewing next week.

I'd really appreciate any advice, hints, tips from y'all...especially anyone who is an interviewer as to what you are looking for. I was going to "dress" for the interview, but DON said they'd schedule the interview immediately before one of my shifts, so that isn't practical.

I hereby solemnly swear not to bring in a burger,fries and a coke, put my feet up on the desk, make calls/receive calls on my cell phone, wear wrinkled scrubs or run down the other candidates :)

THANKS for the good wishes...the interview is scheduled for 1400 tomorrow errr..today, and my shift begins at 1500. Still haven't decided if I'll wear ver clean/pressed "conservative" scrubs or civies. I'm leaning toward white shirt, navy scrub pants and either navy or white jacket (actually a short sleeve snap top worn as jacket)

'spose I better get to bed :)

They might ask how you would deal with certain situations, either dealing with pts issues or staffing issues or even families. Maybe...what changes would you like to see occur on your shift. What type of leader are you...whats your style. Since you've worked there for a while, I would definatly play that up....you are familiar with all the facilities protocols, staff, etc.

UPDATE..

Interview went OK..The healthcare administrator and the DON were there.

Did throw me some questions of "What if" this happened (staff member sleeping, family member calling q 1 hour) I am not good at speaking "off the cuff" so I'm hoping I did well. I was able toget in that I'm going to be there a long time- no plans to change employers at all.

I did write thank you notes Wednesday, but before I could get them into the mail my daughter was in a car accident. Car totaled, but other than being shaken up she's fine. Notes went to the post office yesterday afternoon on my way to work, at the P.O. local to the facility. I really hope they both receive the cards today, before they make up their minds; but did ya ever have that feeling they were interviewing because they HAD to and minds were already made up?

Admin did ask why I wanted this position--I stated my goals for school, and also that I'd then be able to work 40 hrs per week as opposed to 32.

Job description include making rounds on all 3 floor twice a night ; covering emergency calls in ALU and IL;

entering orders into the computer; chart checks ALU; assisting the floor nurses when needed; staffing for nights and days (covering call offs) and when needed covering one of the floors myself if I can't get a nurse to come in...that part I'm not too excited about, though I expected it.

Just an update.

last night I had to goto ALU to deal with an INR of 6.6, and the aide there asked when I was going to start nights! I said I didn't know I had gotten the job, and asked how SHE knew anything about it, because I hadn't told anyone I'd interviewed for it, and who told her what. She immediately clammed up-- wouldn't say a word. ***Now I want to KNOW***

The ONLY one I told I'd interviewed for the job was one of the 11-7 nurses, whom i'd trust with my life--she's not a gossip, and just this past Thursday, I told my dear med aide (oh my gosh, she is FANTANTIC at her job!!!)

I'm wondering if they are waiting to tell me until they've hired someone for my position on 3-11? OH well, I'm not spazzing about it and will bide my time...

OK..another short update.

A couple of other staff members from night shift have asked when I am starting on nights. I still reply "I haven't been told I have the position"

After the week from hades on my floor (11 admissions this week, working with 3 instead of 4 CNAs EVERYDAY, a couple of 911 out, called in to work on Wednesday and early on Friday

I asked the DON if a decision had been made. She had the "deer in the headlights look" for a moment and said to let her talk to the healthcare admin, but the admin didn't want "to make any changes before state comes in" (we are due any second now for yearly inspection) Still no official offer of the position.

I'm waiting for the offer before mentioning pay increase..just gotta figure out what would be correct to ask for

Final Update

Position went to another nurse that now works days. I was so very disappointed, had a lump in my stomach during my whole shift last night.

Didn't realize how much I wanted it until I didn't get it..

Allow me some sour grapes for a moment..the nurse who got the position had been here before, quit for a few weeks and came back. forceful personality :lol_hitti , smokes :smokin: with the DON,ADON (I don't)

I know EVERYTHING is "political", and I'll be just fine. I had really hoped to get back to school this semester to work on pre reqs for my RN, and really don't see the energy to do it working 3-11 which turns into 1500-0100 regularly. I live 32 miles from where I work

Monday, the HC admin had asked that I come see her before my shift on Tuesday. I realized I didn't get the job when she said "Meet me in the DON's office"

I am OK today...I believe everything happens for a reason, and that "All things work for the good of those who love Christ". I spent time last night after I got home with prayer and scriptures to remind me to "Rejoice in all things".

I did reiterate that I planned on being with this company for many years, and I would like to learn and experience other positions than floor/charge nurse. Oh, the DON mentioned the thank you note I sent, so i guess that made a positive impression.

We will see what the future holds ... Thanks for all the support, guys!
