Our coordinator last night kept sending every non-critical case from the ER to our floor (Med-Surg), until we were out of beds (we have 35 on our unit). Every nurse had 8 pts, except for the poor charge nurse who had 9. WE wound up being short a nurse because that SAME coordinator called her off when we had only 24 pts. Then less than 2 1/2 hours we're a full floor!!! Meanwhile other floors had 24-28 pts!!! And the nurse/pt. ratio 4-1. The coordinator's reason? "Oh i like the way you all do your job compared to the other floors". So pile the work on them double time. GREAT idea.

Nope because she knew you guys would double your ratio without complaint. Plus help the budget to boot.

Don't blame the coordinator, blame yourselves. Taking nine patients with a 4:1 ratio is insane. Stop the insanity.

Good luck.

As the wise one sjoe says:

"We will get exactly as much crap as we will take."

Edited to add: Don't mean to sound too harsh. I definately feel your pain. I work on a floor like that. We take admissions very quietly, without complaint. And we take anything. We are always asked to go above and beyond. But the good thing is, when I'm in charge at least, when we can't do anymore, I say "stop" and they listen.

I call this being punished for competency

"Oh, you do it so much better"

"Oh, you're the smartest one"

"You're faster than she is"

Performance Punishment is the label I've heard. Good luck, as they say "No good dede goes unpunished."

i blame the COORDINATOR because this is the only coordinator out of 19 that operates this way.

say stop to her, she takes it to the top. saw too many faces get stepped on by this person with 28 years under her belt.

I'll toss in my little quote also...

The problem with being able to walk on water is that every son of a ***** wants you to trot across the lake on an errand.

Never do well what you do not like doing....

Because people will insist on having you do it over and over again.

How ironic.

I complain on here about this person, and after at least 13 years (one nurse on this floor has dealt with this coordinator for that long) of pushing people on this floor, she got REPREMANDED for it today. After her boss found out last night that one floor had 1 nurse for every 3 pts., this floor 1 nurse for 8 pts, she saw a problem.

It was such a big occaision, the senior nurse ordered a pizza to celebrate.

This could be my floor. :o I wish you all the best of luck, and that this supervisor is gone, asap.

Sounds like this coordinator is a big idiot, that probably plays favorites and punishes those who might challenge her. How do people like that last 28 years? When obviously there is no skill to do the job properly. Sigh....

Hope this one continues to get reprimanded.
