What kinds of things do you think we'll see in healthcare? In the hospitals? In policy? At home?

I work in the hospital so I'm thinking....

Cordless EVERYTHING! Finally. Like sequential compression devices that are maybe a sheet of hydrogel with a little motor inside each. Can you imagine how much easier it would be to get your pt OOB without everything attached to him having a cord? Or even just wrangling with the vitals machine won't be such a mess anymore. And less surface space to contaminate/clean.

Ventilator that works by neuro-stimulating just the diaphragm and the airway will be kept open by a simple spacer. No VAP, less VALI (ventilator-associated lung injury)!

We'll figure out how dogs can detect impending hypoglycemia before traditional blood glucose readings and we'll use that science to have warning sensors. (okay, that might be more than 100 years in the future)

Well, none of that will happen if the present government has anything to say about it. We will be back in the dark ages with socialized medicine.

2112? I will be long since dead, and don't care :)

I was wondering how long it would take before someone took a shot at Obama. I was not disappointed.

Still no nursing shortage.

I don't think the world will last that long.

Yeah, the evil US gubmint never had anything to do with any advances in medicine.

I understand you have some weird ideology to forward, but does is it acknowledge reality AT ALL?

I'm kind of hoping for more research into sham CAM therapies. Including studies into the claims that organic food is better for you than commercial.

I'm looking forward to more studies into conventional medicine and application of recent research. (Antidepressants, Stents, Statins...).

Unfortunately, 2012 will be another year where too many Americans refuse to take responsibility for their (and their kids') health and continue to demand magic pills to solve the problems that have so obvious causes.
