May 5, '05I wear a Tee under myall the time in the winter.....esp since I work at night. Sometimes I wear white, and since my scrubs can be any color, I sometimes coordinate a solid color solid under my scrub. I buy cheap ones from Walmart. I have noticed that some brands of scrubs tend to not only gap at the neck, they also are too big at the arms. I care for lots of men so I am pretty concious of offering "sneak previews" I get the plain long sleeve tees.
May 5, '05Quote from AtlnurstudtYep, because you can see right down the front, and you know those men, they just love to look. Plus if ya go look at hanes har way they have tank top t-shirts.Hey,
This is a bit of an odd question...
Do you usually wear a t-shirt under your scrub top? (I know you probably do during the winter, but what about during fairly warm/hot weather? I guess the temperature in the hospital remains fairly constant...or does it?
I'm wondering because I'm in the middle of purchasing for clinicals and I'm not sure what size to get. The small is too big, but the x-small may not be ideal to put a t-shirt under. (They're cheap so I could get the x-small and move to the small during the winter but I was wondering what you're thoughts were).
May 5, '05Might want to factor in that scrubs are typically cotton, and sometimes shrink a little when they're washed.
I used to wear the very thin sleeveless undershirts under my scrubtops. This enough that i didn't burn up, but enough to cover, especially when i had to bend over.
May 5, '05Quote from Blackcat99I can relate...LOL!! The staff and patients are freezing, but I'm dripping wet...don't need extra clothes! I finally started cutting out scrub pant pockets (that I never use anyway) and sewing in a insert for the V neck in the scrubtop so I'm not 'flashing' everybody.I use to wear a T-shirt under my uniform when I was younger. However, once I hit menopause and started having "hot flashes" I had to stop wearing T-shirts. I now feel like I'm a "loose woman" with all these gaping open areas on my uniform top. :chuckle
Those v necks don't work so well for short waisted big busted gals do they.
May 5, '05I wear a fitted tank and a nude colored bra under my white srub tops.
Dickie scrubs have a nice fit but some of the white pants are a little see through.. so you might want a larger size and a looser fit.

At work I wear an undershirt, I like having something fitted under the lose scrub top. If it's hot I'll wear a fitted men's tank top (AKA "wifebeater") under my scrub top.[/QUOTE]
That shouldn't be funny but it was!
May 5, '05I like the tee plus having a little room in your top is essential if you want to carry things in your pockets....so many things.......alcohol swabs, syringe, scissors, hemostat, pens, IV caps......
May 5, '05During the summer, I like a light-weight tee, and in the winter I like the long sleeved tees. I, too, am busty, and don't like the thought of anyone "sneaking a peek". Good luck on your clinicals
May 5, '05I always wear a t-shirt under my scrubs...don't want to give anyone a show. I hate the idea of someone being able to see my cleavage while I'm caring for my patients!
May 5, '05Quote from Blackcat99Ohhhhhhhhhhh, I really can relate! Gets too hot when you are running around.I use to wear a T-shirt under my uniform when I was younger. However, once I hit menopause and started having "hot flashes" I had to stop wearing T-shirts. I now feel like I'm a "loose woman" with all these gaping open areas on my uniform top. :chuckle
May 5, '05i wear a tank or a boy's size 16-18 ribbed muscle tee.....too much bending over and even though i'm not busty, there is notable cleavage.
for perimenopause/menopausal women, try wearing 100% cotton scrubs- most of them are poly/cotton, w/the polyester actually retaining heat.
May 5, '05I am in the habit of wearing the small, fitted type t-shirts under my scrubs. I feel halfway naked if I put on a scrub top without one.
A few weeks ago a woman was working in my area and bent over while she was standing in front of me. I got an eyefull of EVERYTHING.....no t-shirt and NO BRA. :imbar
May 5, '05When I was in nursing school we had to wear these hideous maroon smocks over a white button down and white scrub pants. They covered almost everything, so when I got my 1st job on a peds floor I didn't think much about wearing tees. Well, I was bent over this 16yo boy trying my best to start his IV, when I heard him start to choke. I though he was just scared of the needle, but when I looked up I noticed where his eyes were...right down my top. Needless to say we were both very red faced :imbar I have worn a tee ever since.
