There is no point to my post, except to vent.

2 months ago I applied for a weekend option position at another facility about 15 miles away...I mean...who wouldn't want to work 4 days a pay period but get paid for 6????? Sounded perfect to me. Besides, I'm familiar with the facility and the staffing there for ER is just awesome.

Waited a month for an interview....interviewed but now it was for Mon, Tues, Wed nights. Talked it over with the family and they all liked the idea of having set days off, more time at home, working nights was starting to become more appealing to me. It was looking good if I got the job.

Old boss finds out I'm looking and have also interviewed. I live in a small area, news has now traveled all over the facility and everyone knows. She tells me....she understands, I have to do what is best for my family and I, etc....She knows I'm frustrated with low staffing (OK, crap staffing) and my pay is just insulting. She's very supportive of my decision and gives me this great talk about how wonderful of an employee I am and how she would just hate to loose me but she understood. It was a nice talk (or so I thought) :angryfire

Got the offer back from HR from new job about a week later - it's a pay increase of $6.49/hr. Set schedule. NO weekends unless I want them. Staffing is great and wonderful. I have met all my new co-workers and they are awesome. New manager seems great. Nothing about this job gives me the willies. I'm so excited that on the way home from my job offer I stop to give the "offical" news to my manager.

So, I give my notice. I'm required to give 2 weeks, I give them 3 because in the mean time, I'm doing hospital orienation at new job and it just made better sense, plus it's the holiday and I need to max out what I can. I've been a great employee for this facility for almost 3 years. I thought (based on my previous converstations with her) that my manager was OK with my notice and my leaving. I was so wrong. :uhoh3:

Since giving my notice she has gone from total silent treatment to back stabbing, back bitting and now has thrown a tissy fit about my leaving to my new manager in a very public location in which my best friend who just happened to be eating at this particular location heard the converstation. :nono:

New schedule is coming out and I offer to pick up some shifts PRN as I know they are strapped during the holiday season. She screams at the desk....."there are issues with you and I'm not talking about those at this desk with others around for your sake" and then walks off. I of course try to follow and she tells me to get out of her face.

Schedule comes out and I have 3 days PRN on the schedule. Funny how when she is faced with working a weekend shift my issues have disolved. :lol2:

I'd like to tell her where to take her flying leap, perhaps give her directions or even drive her there myself....but I live in a small very rural area and burning bridges at 1 of the 2 hospitals in this area is not wise.

I have 6 shifts left, including my 3 PRN shifts. There is only 1 shift that she even has the possibilty of being present at, the rest are holidays and/or weekends. I should not have to deal with her craziness again.

People are odd. ;)

Unprofessional is the nice word I can think of for this woman. Ignore her. And stop trying to appease her by offering to pick up shifts. Do your shifts. Be nice. And ignore her crap. She is just pathetic. Been there, done that. Have even had the idiot call me the next day to see if I would come groveling back. These people are never happy.

Sounds like my manager. I tried to go from a .6 FTE to casual (prn) before summer so that I could have more control of my schedule and work at another job that pays better and gives me day shifts and 12 hrs. She didn't want to let me, leaving me on the same days I would normally have worked anyway, as prn. Then I broke my leg, and she wanted me to work after a month. When I refused and the doctor said no, she tried to use my original resignation letter to post my job, and then when I fought that, she finally relented and I am now working "modified" duties until my leg is 100%. Once I am better I am still going looking elsewhere.

These managers are so desperate that they will say anything to keep you, but if you dare to leave, they will try to burn the bridge themselves just to make you look bad.

I feel like my job wants to own me, yet they pay about $6 per hour less and give me only nights. There are no casual staff to pick up shifts that I want to give away, and OT up the ying yang that I don't want.

I can't wait to give it up.

The best thing you can do is work through your last few shifts with a big smile on your face, being really (overly) pleasant to her if your paths cross. It drives people nuts if they can't get to you! Just keep thinking of how you'll be on to better things and she'll still be stuck with her unpleasant self.

Hang tough!! I gave my notice and it's been crap too!

3 more days for me. Honestly maybe it's jelously.

one of the housekeepers came in my office upset the DON and another nurse said something mean about me. I said see why i'm leaving.

OP: Good for you for sticking out the craziness. I understand the situation you are in because I too live in a small rural town and word gets around. I am constantly having to bite my tongue about past mangers (who could not manage his/her way out of a paper bag) in public because I never know who is listening!!! Anyway, good luck with having to get through your remaining shifts. You have the right attitude so they should fly by pretty quickly!

It seems like it is the same everywhere, it's just a matter of degree. They act like they own you.
