  1. Hey there, I know this thread was written a while ago but I've been offered a job in a fracture clinic/orthopaedic out-patients so it was interesting reading all your replies. I hope you still enjoy working there if you're still there, it sounds like a dream job! And if anyone of your old college mates slate you for it its just cos they're jealous! Good luck x
  2. Hey there. Ach that's rubbish that your knee isn't too good either. What's still wrong with it? I still go to physio once a week and my walking has improved alot and I dont have much of a limp now, but walking upstairs is a bit painful with every step cos of the crunching, and doing leg raises, etc to build up my quads is sore too, but cant not do it or my muscle wont build up! What joy! I went back to see the surgeon yesterday cos of the crunching and they said my knee cap is deviated a bit to the left so that will be making it crunch as well as the rough kneecap but they wont clean it out cos "research has shown this doesn't help"! So I've just to continue with my exercises and hope it gets better. I still have this feeling everytime I walk that something on the outside of my knee is trying to pull my kneecap out! AAAARRRGGGHHH! What type of nursing do you do and can you manage ok with your knee?
  3. Hey there pizzalover! I am too a pizza lover! Anyway, regarding your interview. I know you'll feel nervous and that but try not to worry. The people interviewing you want you to do well and want to give you the place on the course. In my interview they asked me general stuff like "tell me a bit about yourself", "why do you want to be a nurse", "what experience have you had" etc. They might ask you a bit about your access course. Just be yourself and smile! You'll be great. They want you to pass the interview so just remember that. Good luck chuck! x:specs:
  4. Hi there everyone. Not been on this for a while. I dislocated my knee about 7 months ago and my mobility is alot better but my knee is still grinding and crunching. Got offered a job in the fracture clinic of all places cos it should be easier on my knee as wont be as heavy as the ward. Has anyone worked in a fracture clinic before and know what its like. I know bits and pieces but would be good to hear from anyone who has worked in one. Thanks x:bugeyes:
  5. I work in the UK and alot of that is true here. But you get that in most jobs
  6. It's only natural you feel overwhelmed. You'll get more confident and competent through time. 9-5 jobs: Theatres, out-patients, day procedure, clinics.
  7. Knowing that you're doing some good in the world...........and paying the bills!
  8. Old boss sound unprofessional and jealous! Stuff her! Some people in this planet are just weirdos! Good luck in your new job! x
  9. Just put it down to experience. It'll not be the last time you'll conflict with a workmate so dont stress about it. Just learn from it. Stay cool x
  10. It is hard when you first get a nursing job and you feel like giving up. It is good experience that you are getting on that ward you're in. Give it at least 6 months to a year to see if you feel any better. If you dont apply for somewhere else. Your sanity and happiness is more important. And you will find something else if you're still unhappy where you are. But it's only natural what you are feeling just now. Give it another wee while and see how you feel. Try not to stress about it. You'll find your niche and everything will sort itself out, it always does! x
  11. 1) I would do it over again. But I would've picked a different ward to work in when I finished. Yes most wards in UK are short staffed and you're rushed and stressed but I've not worked everywhere, so I cant comment on different wards/clinics, etc. I'm sure there are places where it isn't so short staffed and stressed. I like being a nurse but just need to find a work place I enjoy. 2) You'll know yourself what is right for you, go with your instinct. You obviously wanted to be a nurse and help people and that's why you started the course. I think you should finish your course and become a nurse. At least then you'll have the qualification and can pick where you want to work and where you are happy. Good luck. Everything will sort itself out!
  12. I think anywhere is gonna be less expensive property wise than the UK at the minute! I live in Belfast just now and the prices of property are ridiculous!
  13. You're so lucky! You'll have a fab time! Nova Scotia looks stunning! Good luck! x
  14. Hi there, I used to work as a dental nurse before I became a hospital staff nurse. Dental Hygienist courses are hard to get into. There are limited places and usually they take people who have a dental nurse qualification. But that doesn't mean you wouldn't get in. Usually you need 5 GCSEs, O levels or Standard Grades, and 2 A levels or Highers. Usually people who are dental hygienists work in a few dental practices in the week to make up their pay as it's rare to work 5 days a week in the same practice. The hygienists I knew worked one day a week in 5 different practices as the dentist doesn't require the hygienist everyday. But I'm sure once you are on the course the tutors will help you to find jobs, etc. Regarding other health related jobs. Always need nurses and auxillary nurses. What about radiography, physio, podiatry, occupational therapy or dietician. Hope everything works out well for you, and remember to pack your thermals if you're moving over here!! x x
  15. Hi. Thanks for the welcome! I hope it gets better soon too!
