So embarrassed, just want to vent.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

My patient I care for in private duty has been in the hospital so I went to another agency to see if they had any jobs I could do.

I feel like I can say this among nurses but I apologize if I gross anyone out. My OB/GYN prescribed a round of hormones to clean out my uterus which is causing occasional episodes of very heavy bleeding. "Just in case" I wear a tampon AND a thick pad.

So, I go in to apply at this agency and they lead me to a back room, sit me down and give me the paperwork to do. As I sit down I feel blood come gushing out so I excuse myself to the bathroom. When I change and come back I notice some blood on the chair and I couldn't find any bleach but I wip the blood off and sit down and get busy on the paperwork (I live over an hour away so I wanted to go ahead and get the application filled out). A different woman than the one who lead me to the back comes in and says "The girls say you are back here bleeding, I'm going to have to ask you to come back another time because that is just so unsanitary. We have children come back here and now I'm going to have to throw that chair away."

Well, I'm so shocked it takes a minute for me to register what is going on. But when it hits me all I can think to ask is "can't you clean the chair with bleach?" She says, "I don't have any bleach." So then I can only think to say, "I'll just not come back, this is so embarrassing." She says "Well...ok."

I get out to the car and remember I left something behind but I'm too humiliated to go back so I send my friend in. She says they were in there making fun of me and carrying that metal chair out to the garbage with gloves on.

I'm so embarrassed. I wish I could get a hysterectomy.

How horribly embarrassing, what a nightmare!!! Poor you! You'd think nurses would have been more understanding. Really professional of them to humiliate you then make fun of you. I am mortified on your behalf.

In the future you might want to wear a skirt instead of pants (so they won't see the big bulge) and wear one of those big depends we give our postpartum lady partsl deliveries the first day. Those things will soak anything up.

It sounds to me that no one in that office working could have been a nurse. Even if there was a nurse in the crowd, would you have wanted to work for people like that anyway? How would they treat the people that they take care of? Aren't they women and bleed too?!!! We have been doing this for many, many years. If they can't make provisions for you doing something that all women do until menopause, how would they treat you as an employee? They would have had a piece of my mind...

I'm sorry that you had to go through this, it must have been very difficult. It's probably better that you left and did not come back. I would not want to work at an agency with such insensitive nurses.

Oh my gosh! Poor you and SHAME on those women! I can't STAND these holier than thou attitudes of some people as if THEY never bled through anything before ! But that's not the point.....as IF they had no compassion :angryfire

Wait and see how this tx goes before you wish major surgery on yourself.

My heart goes out to you :icon_hug:

I'm so sorry to here this happened to you. It is totally inappropriate for them to "make fun of" you, especially in an area where anyone, i.e. your friend, could walk in and here them.:angryfire I work in OB/GYN nursing and know how this sort of thing can disrupt your life. I would write a letter to the supervisor/director of the agency letting them know about the behavior of the staff. This probably isn't the type of atmosphere you would want to work in anyway...

Some people never grow up:imbar . Like was said above you wouldn't want to work with people like that anyway. You know that agency proably didn't have enough work for ya anyway if they have time to gossip and joke around about ya then thier definantly not on the phone setting up appts. for nurses in the home. You can only hope in life people do get back what they give. THEY SAY KARMA IS A BOOGER, TO PUT IT NICELY. Are there any other agencies you can apply at?

Boy I sure do miss Tn. this time of year. Have the leaves started changing yet???? How about the temp. Here in Florida, we are preparing for wilma. Please say a few prayers for us down here. I'm proably coming back to Tn. in the next yr or 2 if these hurricanes don'tleave us alone.:p

I'm so sorry this happened to you!!!!!!!!!!! Bless your heart. I feel your pain because I have always had a heavy flow and I had a similar experience happen to me when I was in the 8TH GRADE! Ugh! Talk about embarassing. Everyone knows how chastising 8th grades can be.

You know what, these things happen and if those women can't understand then &^&^$%&^$%***@#*@! Just remember next time to be more prepared.

Don't let it get you down. :)

Also, I am very sorry this happened. Their behavior makes a good example of the difference between being a professional nurse and being just hired help. I am so sorry you had to go through that. I wasn't even there...and I'm embarrassed for their dismal display of professional behavior. How juvenile on their part. You have my hugs, girl. Hope you feel better soon!

Gosh, I am so sorry this happened to you! Those women are very immature to act like that. If anything, I would have been concerned for you bleeding so much. The chair's condition would have been the last thing on my mind...but then again, I'm actually a nurse. So maybe none of those women were nurses or even women who have ever menstruated!

Sorry again!

Very unprofessional and unnecessary behavior on their part. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I guess what bothers me is that all of us (females that is) at one time or another has had a similar problem where we have had an "embarrassing accident" and you'd think they would have the understanding and compassion not to treat a person like this. The fact that your friend overheard them making fun of you demonstrates their lack of maturity and glaringly shows their ignorance.

:yeahthat: Certainly they should have demonstrated concern and offered assistance.
