Seriously, you gotta find the "right" job

I'm reading all these posts about people here lately who are unhappy and to the point of quitting nursing. I think we have all been there and if you are unhappy at one place, the next might not be as bad. You just have to suck it up, and switch jobs!

That is what I did and I totally am completely in LOVE with my new job. It is LTC, which is my specialty, but they actually overstaff us here with CNA's. I'm in charge of 37 residents, have me, a med tech, and 4 glorious CNA's just on my floor alone. Sometimes we even have 5 aides. I'm busy but I love it. I work evening shift. I'm responsible for assessing and documenting on the Med A residents, the hospice residents, I'm responsible for passing the narcs and counting off with day/night shift charge...I do accu checks and insulins and treatments, if there is any. Last I worked, we still had an IV saline lock to attend to and a feeding tube resident. I actually get my breaks here, my CNA's apologized to me one night because I dared to answer "their call lights". They are supportive and easy to work with and everything just flows. I never thought I would find this in LTC! 16 years of being in LTC and I'm just now finding my place in the nursing world....

Hang in there and know that "your" job is out there; you just gotta find it!

Glad to hear that you like your new place so well!

I totally agree, a great workplace makes all the difference in the world. I don't like all the politics that are going on with the "restructuring" at my current facility, but the people I work the floor with are wonderful. I recently had several weeks off post-op, and I actually was looking forward to going back!

Are you anywhere near St. Louis (within an hour of)? If you are, would you mind if I PM'd you if I get to the point that I'm looking for a supplemental job?

I agree.

My husband and I are both nurses. One of the schools I serve asked me to give a presentation about nursing to the students, and my husband was able to come with me.

One thing we couldn't stress enough was the flexability and job security, and all of the different options available. He said "We graduated from the school, same degree, even working in the same hospital, but did two totally different things. We're still doing different things, but both nursing".

Yes, I've been there when I worked with some of the most evil people whose primary goal in life was to get to the top, no matter who they stepped on to get there. But I survived, and we all will. I love the fact I can do almost anything, anywhere with my degree!
