Are you sure you want to move straight away to California or NY with the job market as it is? California grads are having a very tough time finding work as new grads.

I mean i have some family over there and im sure i could probably work something out. but in this state its really hard to find a job with a nice salary and from what i heard the pay in Ny is great especially for new grads.

There are no jobs for new grads in NY either. You are lucky if you can find a job in TX now. What we need is the economy to thaw a little faster so that the nurses who are going to retire, do retire and the husbands of nurses who were forced to come back to work because their husbands lost their jobs, go back to being housewives.

Don't forget - wherever those "great" salaries are, the cost of living is likely not so great, ie, very high.

Personally, I would never move to a state or a region without a job already secured.

I am in NY...your better off in Florida. The cost of living here is actually slightly above what they pay nurses in my opinion. California is like fly paper because the pay is silly good, but that makes it all the more competitive even with experience. New grad without connections at all = longshot.

One of my friends graduated from nursing school in August 2009. He has still not found a job as an RN in California. He has applied to hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, you name it. He has even been turned down for CNA jobs. They attribute this to his "new-grad" status. You may not want to start in California. Also, you can't realistically expect to get these amazing salaries as a new grad. Hospitals don't want to pay you $$$ to train you. Get some experience and the healthcare world will be your oyster.

thanks for the advice guys. does anyone know the average salaries though for tampa and Ny?

Remember... you can make more in NY and still be broke, but less money in Tampa and be very comfortable. It's all about the cost of living.

Tampa /Sarasota area is unbelievably beautiful. Why move?

I'm originally from rhode island and i have lived in Florida for 6 years. At first it was great, but the weather gets so tiring its always very hot and humid, wages are very low, no jobs, and everything is so far away its ridiculous. I want to try a different state, but i guess ill see when i graduate.
