Hi I'm a nursing student and i live in Tampa, Fl. I would like to know what are the salaries for the RN's in the Tampa Bay area? because i was wondering, if after i graduate i should move to Ny or Cali since i heard there salaries are great just starting off so are there benefits. can anyone confirm this? Thanks:nurse:

Yes, the starting salary for a new grad is $21.50. I work at a large teaching hospital in Tampa and that's the starting pay. Hope this helps :-). BTW, my mom works in California and was pretty sure she would be able to get me a job after I grad nursing school on her floor, not even with that connection could I overcome the hiring freezes and the "please no new grads" on job postings. Try to get your experience in first then think about the move. Also, another new grad moved from NYC to here because he couldn't find anything in his entire state.

Hey lacedmm1 thanks for the information. what hospital are you working for? and yes a lot of my family has gave me the same advice to start off for a little bit down here and then move. The starting salary here is just too low. Nurses do deserve much more than 21.50. This economy needs to straightened up. I have some cousins that work up north and theyre RN's as well, they do say the living up there is expensive, but you do live pretty comfortable. i think it just really depends the location and where the hospital is.

does anyone else have more information on this?

California is very tight. Once RNs gain hospital employment they pretty much go nowhere for 30 yrs lol....pay is too good. I talked to a woman who worked 36hr weeks and made 85K on a regular med/surg floor, and had been at her job for 30 yrs and had zero plans to retire.

wow that's really good! do you know what part of California she was living in?

yes......but before you get any ideas, the hospital hasn't been hiring grads for over 2 yrs now lol. Awful.

wow that is awful! well thanks anyway.
