Question regarding MBA--please respond

Do any of you have an MBA or know someone who does? I'm asking because I am comteplating going to a local school's dual master degree program that combines an MSN in case mgt w/ an MBA and that interests me. I need to get some feedback on the pros and cons of having an MBA. I am looking to distance myself from nursing for a while if not forever and am hoping an MBA will be worth the while (i.e. will I have trouble finding work w/in my major for instance)? I regardless of what I decide to do when I grow up will keep my nursing lisence current to fall back on, but I would just like out for now. Thanks ahead of time for any constructive feedback.

If you are interested in administration and moving up in health/nursing administration this will be an advantage having a duel masters. I have seen several distance programs that have this duel major. What a great idea.

The Univ. of Texas offers a combo degree (MSN-MBA) for people seeking positions in administration. I know one graduate who states the work load was tough, but she is an honor student and works full time, so I guess it can be done.

Think the degree will help if you stay in Nursing.

By itself don't believe there's a lot of demand for it... unless you're truly exceptional and you specialize in finance. (Can be kinda boring for many folks.)

The MBA was the revered degree of the '80s and '90s.

When I was living in Arizona, all of the nurse managers at one of the major medical centers had MBAs, none had MSNs. The MBA is much better for a management position, just depends what your future goals are.

I recently interviewed a well respected nurse/manager of a large hematology/oncology practice (as part of my business writing class). She highly recommended the extra business/management degree. It can only make you more marketable. Besides, becoming a case manager or nurse manager would at least keep you in the field, while maybe giving you a break from the part you need to separate yourself from.
