Im angry. I work for a small clinic in Northern CA. There are three RN's on staff at all time. Recently our Office Manager decided to start drug testing of all staff including Doctors. Well, one... Read More

Yea, I stopped years ago but oh the memories of those good times.

People grossly misjudge and the dramatic antics only emphasize the depth of misunderstanding. Oh well, I guess the world of nursing lacks the progressive spirit of our times.

How did you find a thread started in 2002 and last posted to in 2008?

    Just wondering.

I know you didn't ask me but I found this thread by searching on the word "structured." I'm actually trying to find posts about structured interviews. Haven't found 'em yet but getting sidetracked all over the place!

As a new member to this site I am always finding old threads and want to comment on them but they are soooo old. In the directions for this site it says to check to see if the topic has been covered before starting a new thread. Everytime I want to discuss something it has been discussed, MANY years ago. Hmmmmm always wondered should I start a new thread or just comment on an old one and get it started again. Anyway, about this thread. A nurse that does drugs should NOT be a nurse.. PERIOD. A doctor that does drugs should NOT be a doctor.. PERIOD. The only ones that would think otherwise are the druggie nurses and doctors. Seriously I dont want a pot smoking loser taking care of me!!!!!

You'll get flak for both resurrecting and old thread and starting a new one if there is already an older one, so there's no winning.

Many nurses and doctors do drugs, they drink caffeine, have a glass of wine with dinner on their time off, take an advil here and there, etc, I don't think that makes them any less of a nurse or doctor. As you can see, not all drugs equal. In terms of pot, I'd much prefer a nurse or doctor caring for me who smokes some pot on their week off than one who is hungover or who has to leave the floor every 2 hours for a cigarette break. If there ability to do their job isn't in any way impaired while at work then it's not really my business.

My grandmother-in-law is now a pot smoker. She's 87, a retired nurse, and raised 9 kids (while working full time), I hardly agree that she is a "loser".

That sort of stigma being perpetuated by Nurses is unfortunate, since we are one of the main groups that should be advocating for better treatment of patient symptoms that have not been adequately treated by other means.

What is wrong with weed anyways? I mean if a nurse works 3 days out of the week, its up to her or him to do whatever they wish on their off days!

Being a hippie is so cool lmbo!

I think you should take a hit or two and not be bothered!

A relative of mine had a similar problem with people doing this. His workmates were always smoking dope (pot) on their days off, someone made a serious mistake and my relative was nearly killed. He complained to all the managers and even to the CEO of the company - all to no avail. My relative had been in the same job for years and he ended up leaving - after telling the CEO to his face what was happening. As far as he knows nothing ever happened.
Report these people to the police and go to the media. I'm sure people in general do not want to be treated by dope smoking doctors and nurses.
I think it is absolutely disgusting and if anyone told me to 'chill out' about such a serious issue, believe me, I would be taking it much further.
This is a serious addiction and drug issue that also needs to go much higher and to the police if necessary.

I don't like the idea of my job being able to control what I do in MY free time. I hate alcohol and I always hear people talking about how they are getting hammered after work. But I can't smoke one joint? Oh the hypocrisy. I have given this a lot of thought and I decided that I am not happy working at a place that tells me I can't do something I very much enjoy to do in my free time. I had to ask myself what is mroe important to me? More money or my happiness in my free time? MY HAPPINESS IN MY FREE TIME. I only live once and I will not be miserable just to have money. NOPE.

Then please don't be offended when those of us who choose to not engage in illegal activity, and know how long pot stays in the system, and that it DOES have effects on response time/judgement do not want a loaded nurse caring for us or our family/friends.
    Happy inhaling
