Overheard at the nurse's station

Nurses General Nursing

Published

My office is at the opposite end of the unit, away from the nurse's station. My daily routine is to spend the mornings on the unit, rounding with doctors, helping with care, and talking to patients. I spend the afternoons in my office doing paperwork and administrative tasks. The hospital is remodeling the floor above ours, and I needed to move out of my office for a few weeks because of the noise and dirt directly above me. My office is now temporarily in a small storage area right behind the nurse's desk. Some of the staff must have forgotten I was there, because this is the conversation that took place. (Some details have been changed to protect the innocent. And HIPAA)

CNA: Can you look at the IV in 412? It keeps beeping.

RN: That's not my patient.

Me, coming out of the office: Did you just tell her that's not my patient when she asked for help?

RN: NO

CNA: Yes she did.

ME: Go take care of the IV then come into my office

So we had the talk about teamwork, respect, integrity, and putting patients first. Of course she said she was sorry, she had been distracted, this is not her normal behavior. I warned her that this was unacceptable, and I did not want to hear this type of thing again. Then about an hour later, another conversation between the same two staff.

RN: I was just in 411. She needs a bedpan. Go put her on.

CNA: OK

Me, coming out of my office: Did you just tell her to go put a patient on a bedpan when you were in the room?

RN: NO

CNA: Yes

ME: Go put her on the bedpan yourself, then come into my office.

I usually dislike writing staff up, but this girl really deserved it.

Maybe something was outside the TOS. And maybe still deserved.

Pondering: If one does, in fact, admit to enjoying doing the exact behavior that a troll does (by definition) to cause annoyance and direct attention to himself, why shouldn't he wear the title proudly? Or at the very least, not cry "FOUL" when it is applied?

Pondering....

Sling all you want at me I can take it, just make sure some of it is via private message.....gotta keep the main clean yes?

He's nuts-o and I won't be responding to any of it. I'm embarrassed that we allowed him such a spotlight

Mindlor, karma is going to come and bite you when you are a nurse and your cocky attitude pushes all your CNAs away and you're doing everything on your own.

Believe me, as a tech and working with other techs if you disrespect us or treat us bad don't expect help from us unless a patient is dying. Remember this when you have 6+ patients and they are all demanding things from you and your tech is down the other hallway helping the other RNs who treat them with respect the same way everyone deserves :rotfl:

OP you were right in your actions and I respect you for standing up for what you believe in.

How did this thread become all about mindlor? Fun to read, but really guys...we've made his day with all this attention.

And I've just added to it. Oh dear.

Isolating the original post, I wouldn't have been quick to judge. However, given more context on the nurse's previous actions, the OP's description of the nurse is spot on. I would hate working with her.

For realsies.

OP, I enjoyed your narration of events as well. When I read: Nurse: NO CNA :YES, it instantly brought flashbacks of our brother and sister fights with subsequent motherly intervention (and swatting!)...funny stuff :)

My 'slings' are within the TOS, so it's all clean. And no, I don't think we'll private message. But thanks for the offer.

'Nighty night.

I was not looking for a spotlight for myself. Merely trying to encourage thought. I made several mistakes tonight. Some were pointed out and I owned up and apologized.

All said though it was fun yes? So many threads here are so boring.

So many nurses are so boring......come one folks lighten up, and lets have a goods time in this world yes?

You are so right....I'm done too. It's getting silly! LOL.... And I really do think Sybil Rides Again.

Just too weird....maybe someone needs friends? LOL.....time for me to go beddy-bye, too.

I am no mod and please correct me if you area a mod proper....

But my understanding of the TOS is that any personal attack is a violation no matter how veiled.......
