Nurses General Nursing

Published

I remember to this day, first day as a nurse, putting orders in

Order said " CBC cdiff"

I put an order for CBC and one for stool for CDT x2

That same thing happens again later on the day, 3 other people with "CBC cdiff"

So I went on to ask a nurse, ( I thought, damn, what is up with all this cdiff??? My patients don't even have diarrhea!) so I asked the nurse if we screened for cdiff, and she looked at me like I was from mars:eek: so I told her, look at this orders....

... Then I learned about the differential:yeah: never seen that in school!

So what made you feel like a :jester:?

Gotta love spirited discussion. In you and me fever might kill bacteria, but in a 94 year old woman with orders for No IVs, NO antibiotics, NO hospitalization.....it was the only thing we had to use to keep the woman comfortable. I suppose I should have prefaced my original remark with the back ground story. The bigger HUH!?! came when the nurse suggested we not give the patient any Tylenol just to see how high her fever would go.

Specializes in cardiac stepdown, pre-hospital.

I was getting a telephone order to test for possible HIT. The surgeon said to order HIPA.. well, I was tired and said, "HIPAA? Test for privacY?" He just laughed and told me I needed a day off.

Got it :)

I'd argue FOR Tylenol in that situation also

FWIW, I never felt all that "spirited" :D Just clarifying, and the links were just information = nothing more :)

Here we go again. Trekfan, PM me if you want.

The comments regarding Trek Fan's spelling have inspired entire threads alone. She has a disability that affects her written language, and tires of the constant comments thereof. Though no maliciousness may be meant, it starts to feel like people are constantly pointing and whispering, so to speak.

Thanks Generator.....Those of us who know Trek as very protective of her and get really annoyed when some decide to voice their dislike of the posts. Trek does very well and we like her!!!! I hope you are better Trek!

I don't blame you one bit dear. I'm sorry if I made any comments that were an insult to you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/febrile

not from johns' hopkins, but has decent references, and gets to the point.

the docs i worked with didn't want apap given unless a temp hit 101.0f, for the reason of being useful in killing bacteria that have a specific temp where they're nuked.

i was reading the link you provided and found the most funniest quote....

they are also afraid of harmless side effects like [color=#0645ad]febrile seizures and dramatically overestimate the likelihood of permanent damage from typical fevers.[color=#0645ad][39] the underlying problem, according to professor of pediatrics barton d. schmitt, is "as parents we tend to suspect that our children's brains may melt".[color=#0645ad][40] :p
