Nursing School at Night?

Does anyone know of RN programs geared towards working folks? I've seen a few ADN programs that advertise they cater to working people with night classes, ect.

FWIW, I live in Arizona and have not found anything in the state that allows such flexibility. Most programs are "full time" and during the day.

Thanks for your responses.

This is probably totally irrelevant because I'm in Illinois......but I'm in the ADN program at my local community college and the way ours is set up is with day and night sections.

There are 40 students in the daytime program each semester, and 20 students in the night program each semester. It's competitive all the way around, but the night sections fill up quick because there are only half the seats. I know it has only been in the past few years they have been offering nighttime sections, but now all of the community colleges within a good hours drive offer nights due to the demand.

I'm sure this doesn't help you in Arizona, but I wanted to put it out there for ya!

Good luck!

I know the Practical/Vocational Nurse route is not for everyone, but I've found that in my state, many of these programs are available in the evening. This is a great option for those of us (myself included) that have to maintain a full-time day job. Just something to consider if you cannot find an evening RN program.

The Arizona Board of Nursing has very good information on their website on approved programs and entrance requirements. There has got to be an evening option available somewhere in your state.

You can view this info here:

Again, a midwesterner, so no help to you unless you want to move to Iowa! We have a traditional day program and an evening weekend program for both our PN and ADN program.

National University in San Diego offers night cohorts, however, must people do not generally pick (although you can request). From my understanding, every quarter each cohort alternates between night and day. I start in January '09, which is a night cohort (thank god!) and I believe April is day.

We always had daytime clinicals. Some of us requested night clinicals but they were unable to find a facility that would accomodate us. Something to keep in mind is that not all clinicals can be done at night, for example, how much can you learn when most of the patients are sleeping? I realize that this does not apply to all areas, since you can certainly learn a lot in ER or OB at night, but what about psych, OR, and med/surg? As someone that never had night clinicals, I may be way off, so maybe someone else has some personal experience?

There is a program near me that offers class at night during the week and clinical are offered during the weekend day.

Hope you find something near you that works for you.

Good luck

I forgot to mention that although many schools offer theory classes at night, clinicals are usually a whole different story. At my school, we take clinicals whenever they are assigned.

Not sure of where in AZ that you live, but if you are looking at the MCCD programs, Gateway and Glendale both offer part-time programs. Also, Rio Salado has an online program, with clinicals on weekends.
