When the general public needed to be informed about the issues of breast cancer, heart disease, and tobacco, commercials were there to educate, resulting in raised awareness levels. Nursing has a... Read More

OK...one more, then I'm gonna put my feet up:

Pt drifts toward light, says, "ohhhh, this is nice."
    Voice: "Sorry, not your time..."
Pt: "Oh gee, thanks! You'd do that for me?"
Voice: "No, I'm doing it for her"
Fade to ER scene with frantic nurse coding pt, thinking, "oh dear God dont let him die...."

Voiceover: "Nurses: we do more than you think."

I also think the ANA or the unions should be paying for these, not Johnson & Johnson.

I keep on telling everyone there was a show in mid sixties called the nurses staring Zena Bethune. No body remembers it but me. It was on season and half and was spin off of Dr Kildare series.

Yall are great...I agree that we should have our own television series, depicting life from nursing's side of the curtain...have seen a couple of series about nurses but was unimpresses...one was about student nurses and they were abunch of sleeze balls...another,years ago,had Michael Learned (mama Walton) as the star, but cannot remember any story lines...
All I CAN remember is that she used the dry cleaner for her uniform cleaning...
WE have had such a negative image in the public's eyes...years ago, on a favorite soap opera, the nurses wore tight white, short uniforms with cleavage hanging out...and heels..white heels, not 2 inch blocks...spikes...shortly after seeing this for years, I began nursing school and the comedic/tragic/disgusting effect of the nurses on TV hit me...then I found out that nurses were a big thing in porno flicks...and then I had several comments made to me by memebers of the opposite sex about how all we do is perform sex acts while at work...we have a lot to do to improve our image...
LasVegas...you brought tears to my eyes with your ideas...
    Sleepyeyes...love Ninja Nurse...
canoehead...you are right...cannot begin to sum up the times I have pulled the cutain or shut the door to prevent "over- exposure"...and why oh why during a code does the pt "have" to be completely naked...I have pulled up covers until my fingers were numb...Not talking about during CPR...but if we are in the medication only phase and the pt is responding, why do the docs pull the covers all the way back...I find this particularly offensive...breath and bowel sounds can be auscultated by putting one's stethoscope under the covers....a hand can be put under the covers to palpate a pulse...have had family memebers walk into the room suddenly...
    eltrip...great idea...wonderful slogan for pro-nurses campaign!!!

Have fun...wish I had a viable idea...too brain dead at this moment!!!!

Thanks, Suzannasue. These aren't ideas, but real people! Brad is a hospital discharge planner (also called utilization review nurse, care coordinator, case manager), the "lady" is a home health nurse (also called home care coordinator and case manager), and George is an occupational health nurse (also called industrial health nurse, workers compensation nurse, case manager). We can be so many things in so many areas and are still... NURSES!!

I remember the show Zena Bethune and that show she played in, Oramar. I also remember Dr. Kildare, Ben Casy, MD, Quincy, MD. or was it Quincy Adams, MD?

Does our being the only two who recall these shows make us "even older than dirt", Oramar?

Karen send it to the ANA and let them know nurses need this shot in the arm morale wise, and public perception wise. And it will give the ANA some much needed support frm all the nurses in the trenches.

Seems like a win-win if ever I saw one!

    Another;

2 older female nurses are talking at the station; one's annoyed, aside to nurse 2, "Why are nurses perceived by patients as being sexy and young all the time? I just had one ask me for a good-looking nurse in a tight uniform...."

[Looks around station, then addresses someone behind the desk:]

"Oh Mark? The grandmother in 15 is asking for you again......"

    Handsome male nurse stands up....
