Nurses Capes (not caps)

I have seen older photos of nurses in long capes. I wonder if anyone here actually wore them, were they really warm, practical etc. It is part of nursing of the past, but they look so interesting, I was just wondering if anyone has any personal experiences with them.

Thank you.

Those are cool! I want one! How long are they? They look to be about hip length.

Next time I am at the fabric store I will look for a pattern....there has to be one in a vintage pattern area.....anyone ever seen the pattern?

I've never had a nursing cape, although I would love to have one. I used to wear capes all the time because I love their versatility, and personally, I think they look a bit dashing. They're great over suits. And you can ride a horse while wearing one as well!!

Check out ebay today, there is a nurse cape item:

a nurse cape from circa 1930

Item # 1053749997

You find them from time to time.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PACU.

I went to nursing school in the 80's and the hospital had them at the front for the nurses that were taking patients out! They were so cool! :)

Please, if anyone finds out where to get them please e-mail me. I would love to have one !!!!

Specializes in Adult ICU/PICU/NICU.

I still have my nursing cape. I graduated from nursing school back in the 50s and we were required to wear it to the hospital. I still wear my cap, pin, and starched whites to work, but the cape, well, my grandson now uses it to play batman with when he comes to my house.

I trained in the late 1980's and we had one as an optional part of the uniform. A shorter style red felt, red riding hood number. Very uncool at the time, although I quite liked it . jax

I would suggest looking on Ebay, as they have them posted from time to time.

My goodness I haven't had a cape since I first entered nursing school, in 1964. Suggest e-bay. If I still had mine, I wouldn't give it up.
