I feel for you. I was in the same predicament a few years ago when my daughter was in a terrible MVA in which she was seriously injured and her roommate was killed. It is so hard to be there and see the injuries and the pain through the eyes of a nurse and a mom. I'm sure your daughter is taking out her frustrations on you because she is comfortable with you. It's hard though because you are trying to do things for her to make her feel better. You are tired and worried and it's difficult to deal with her right now. But hang in there. You'll get through it. One day she will look back and see how fortunate she was that she wasn't hurt more seriously or killed, and that she had a loving mom who helped her through a very rough time.
It is hard to be in your shoes.
Hang in there even if it takes a few years.
Your family is truly blessed to still have your daughter.
Someday when she is not angry she will be so grateful to have had her own nurse by her side without having to have turned on a call light.
It is almost easier to be" the nurse" when you need to be "mom".
Sounds like your daughter is already having issues with losing some of her independence.....................this too shall pass.
You will all be in my prayers!
bravery in action is to be there when family hits it bad. good for you to hold your ground and be there even when "everything you do is wrong!" who knows? your daughter might see the light and become a nurse after all. '''-)
ps. lucky is the daughter who's mom washes her road rash with love and tears!
I too have been there, done that. My son was in a MVA last October - his Ford Taurus sideswiped a semi-truck. He's a miracle. I was able to lay aside my "nurse" roll and be mom, (as a nurse I know how staff freaks out when they find out a family member is a nurse and I didn't want people to act differently because of it) I did tell the ICU nurse that I'm an RN, but know absolutely nothing about ICU work as I've only worked in LTC - she was very gracious and told me if I had any questions to ask.
The road to recovery has been long, but he is alive and will make a full recovery - and that is my prayer for your daughter - a full recovery without any lasting effects, that she will come to realize how fortunate she is to have a mom who loves her and especially I pray for strength for YOU, mom, you will need it - seek the peace that only He can provide and trust in Him that all will work out ok. Take care of you so you can help take care of her....
