I am currently living in NC and there is a hospital in Naples, FL that is affiliated with Duke University Hospital here. They are recruiting in this area and i was just wondering does anyone know anything about Naples (ex. cost of living (apts. and homes), how the school system is (I have 2 children) and any other pertinent information you can give? Thanks

Here's the Chamber of Commerce site. I do know that you have to have the Florida license in hand before you can work there so you might also want to check the BON webpage for details.
Good luck. I hope you get some more informed replies than mine, because I don't think I have ever visited Naples.
oh my goodness. I went to the chamber of commerce website and the rates of apt rentals is ridiculous. I may as well move back to NYC. I can scratch them off of my list of possible places to relocate to. WOW!!!!!!!

Just to add that the hospital in Naples is notorious among travel nurses for cancelling contracts with travelers in mid contract when they feel that their census is down, dumping on the permanent staff.

My dad lives in Naples. It's lovely, but the cost of living can be high. It's very much a 2nd-home place where retired folks and the rich-n-famous go for "The Season". Don't know about the school system.
Currently, Steven Spielberg is building a house down there at a cost of $20+ billion. The current Secretary of the Army (White?) also is building a house down there. I think Larry Byrd, too.

I don't know what exactly you have considered, but I live in florida, no where near naples i don't think, but you could live in a smaller town and commute. I live in Pasco County, and the school system here is spectacular. I'm a senior in highschool (and a freshman in college) and there are so many options available, depending on the type of school you want your children to attend, whether it be public or private, there are definately some excellent schools down here.

My in-laws live in Ft. Myers which is about 30 miles north of Naples. I have been down there and yes, housing is very expensive. They have the Cleveland Clinic in Naples and I have been to it a couple of times when my MIL had appointments. It is very nice and well-decorated, but I don't know what kind of job offerings they have. Have you considered looking at Ft. Myers and commuting to Naples? Just a thought.

I agree, Ft. Myers is very nice and not as expensive as Naples. Straight shot on the freeway too.

Pay rates in Florida are pathetic, and the patient population is elderly - lots of total cares. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your license, the board is difficult to get through to, and the staffing ratios are generally poor.
How much do you want the sun?????
Pay rates are poor where i'm at currently. A new grad starting is only paid $17-17.50. Ratios are bad here too. I have also been looking at San Antonio and Houston as my other choices.
Fort Myers is a pleasant area. I liked it well enough that I've gone back for contracts there 3 different times.
