Moving from California to south carolina

Hello all, my husband has announced he would like to move to summerville south carolina. I have been a RN (adn I do not have my bsn) on a medical surgical non monitored floor for the last 8 years. I am very well paid here in California and union with a 5 to 1 patient ratio. Can anyone tell me if south carolina has any sort of patient ratio and what would be my averahe starting wage if I agree to move. Also does anyone know if the hospital in summerville works 12 or 8 hour shifts?

The only state with mandated nurse: patient ratios for acute care is CA

I almost certain Nursing ration laws is not common in most US states. Especially in the south where organization dominates labor good or bad. I could be wrong

CA is the only state that has mandated nurse patient ratios in acute care- the only mandated ratios of any type. Facilities elsewhere are able to set their own ratios and follow or not follow them.

As for whether jobs are 12 or 8 hour shifts, it is very possible the job posting will state that. I would assume that a job that is posted as 36 hours/week or 72 hours/pay period would equate to 3 12s while a job posted as 40 hours/week or 80 hours/pay period would be 8s. Not 100%, but seems to be a safe bet.

Hi, I actually live in Summerville. First let me say Summerville is a great town and it is very near Charleston which is a great city as well. The economy here is strong, but it may be a little over saturated with RNs. Nurse to patient ratio is usually four to five per RN at the two local hospitals I have worked at. Pay with your experience and benefits should be in the upper twenties per hour. I have not worked at the hospital in Summerville, but it is generally 12 hour shifts around here. Honestly, it is different for each unit and manager. Feel free to PM me with any further questions and good luck.
